As above, suggestions please. Insurance and running costs not too important.

MX5 off the list.

There may be a very well looked after 147 for a similar price. Not official yet but I could be easily persuaded hehe

The 6 cylinder XJRs very rarely go wrong, it's the later V8 models that had a lot of problems - plastic chain tenioners etc. The 6 cylinder cars were very reliable.

Another vote for Volvo as long as it says T5 on the back.
Alfa 156 another good one, lovely cars. Buy for a bag and save the other one for fixes and enjoy.

Did you read the advert?
I quote:
"Drives well but smokes fairly badly"
and
"Either fix it or just drive it or use as parts-You come along-pay for it and drive it away-No warranty or guarantee-Sold as spares"

I wouldm't say that, yes the 1st & 2nd gen tensioners need uprating to the later metal type, but very little else is a major problem. There are plenty of 150k mile plus V8 XJR's around, I had a very good one myself. The only other thing that stands out is that the "sealed for life" gearbox needs an oil & filter change every 60k miles, but I would hardly call that a problem.

Mercedes 560sec. I know it is listed out of budget, but the seller has had it for a very long time and will just want shot of it, so I bet a bid of £2k would get it so long as it isn't massively borked.

Still wouldn't be cool, and that's coming from a (19 year old) owner of a T5 Volvo. Nice car, but cool is the one thing it ain't...

In my opinion it being uncool makes it so much cooler haha. As a younger driver myself I have much respect for other drivers with interesting cars compared to the standard 'cool' cars.

Unfortunately you only get recognition from 19yr olds who know what a T5 Volvo is. (PS: Theres not that many)
