Mike, some years ago I changed mine for a nice simple round alloy knob with a TVR badge embossed on top. It was a from an after market company on ebay, but can't see it available now.
I will check my receipts and see if I can find the supplier.
At the same time I shortened the gear stick, as they do sit a little high. The knob now sits tight on top of the gaiter, very neat. The shift as a result is a little shorter and assists quicker changes.
cheers.

Yes the originals were the plastic Rover SD1 type. Thats why I changed mine for alloy.
