Does an old rally cars log book have any value?
Discussion
Errr, as the title says really. Having a curry with my old man & some mates last night we got to talking about cars as usual & dad casually mentions he still has the log book for his old mini cooper, which before he owned it won the welsh rac rally & a few other events apparently.
In the end he chopped it up with & scrapped it, sold off all the bits he could (like the engine & box etc) & forgot about it.
He never declared it to the dvla.
I've heard about lots of race/rally cars being like triggers broom, but without any chassis numbers would anyone even want something like this?

Perfectly possible but I would not do it. The car at the end would be a fraud. Wrong Engine, body and everything else. Simply not genuine.
But it could be done and there are such cars about. Up to you.
Good answer cheers steffan, to be honest it's just something that dad would never throw away-one of those sorts of things I guess? But it could be done and there are such cars about. Up to you.
We're not the types to build a car up ourselves or anything & it's not like we're planning to do anything with it but although I knew about the car I never knew he still had the logbook for it.

Anorak's Corner here - there was no such thing as the 'Welsh RAC rally', though there was a Welsh Rally. According to all published records, the Welsh rally was only won once by a Mini-Cooper (in 1964), and that particular car is well-known, and has been alive and well for many years.
So is it even worth taking this on as a worthwhile project ?

obviously that doesn't mean the history is worth anything!
As said it is possible.
As long as you were honest if you ever sold the car I don't see a problem.
Lots of rally cars are reshelled during their lives, I know of an ex works escort that has had at least 3 shells, including 1 reshell by the works team before it left them.
Many of the cars are used for a purpose, not garage trophies.
