Not sure if this should go in movies, health or food section, so I'll leave it up to the mods.

Anyway, I recently watched the film Fathead by Tom Noughton and would recommend it to anyone. It's a sort of response to Supersize Me, but it goes a lot deeper than that, investigating the common received wisdom of the diet industry and government health campaigns.

There's a few shocking things - I had no idea that they used a petrol derivative to extract oil from maize, canola etc, and it stands to reason that this is not good for you. The diet experiments were very interesting, and although it's pointing out the obvious the bits about no-one dragging him into McDonalds, and people's general laziness about things like parking spaces are quite funny.

The debunking of the obesity "epidemic" at the start is refreshing too.

What I really like though is the simple logic behind it that seems to be this - humans are evolved to eat mainly meat and fruit, with a few vegetables. We're not meant to eat mounds of processed grass, which is what pasta, rice and wheat amount to, and definitely not the oils of these plants, extracted with solvents.

I've been experimenting with this a bit too. Fried eggs cooked in beef fat are great, and I really don't miss mounds of pasta, potatoes or rice. The odd bit of toast still gets in, but that's it.

Definitely worth watching, and would be interested to hear other people's comments and experiences.

I've been following this kind of diet since Christmas after my cousin, a PT, introduced me to Marks Daily Apple, and Primal Blueprint.

I've kept reasonably fit for absolutely ages now, mainly running and cycling but started lifting weights since Christmas.

The results have absolutely knocked me for six. I've never been heavier, leaner, or felt better. It's a test at first, and I still drink too much and have Saturdays off (AYCE Indian for tea, Dominos for breakfast... ) but still... Amazing results.

I went Primal a couple of weeks ago. hehe

No idea whether it's proven or even true, but I'm enjoying the food and a more relaxed attitude to exercise and life in general. I'll look out for this film/programme though - where did you see it?

ETA: Ninety fecking squids! Click. Currently kicking ass. wink

90 quid?! That's a lot.

Umm, downloading it would be a bit naughty I guess though...
