had the dog out last week and he dissapears down the hill side following a scent into the bushes. He came back a coule of min's later looking like this...

He was the same on both flanks and the end of his tail was dripping with it. It did look like blood but there's not a scratch on him and once dry it drushed off and you'd never know it'd been there. It did raise a few eyebrows amongst the other dog walkers who saw him; I think some thought I'd beaten him with barbed wire.

Weird, what about retracing his steps to find out what he went through?

Yes, berries were my first thought and there are wimberry bushes on the hillside, but they've been picked clean by wood pidgeons long ago. In fact he spent much of the autumn trying to catch/flush them, when there were lots of ripe berries and he never came back like that. What still has juicy berries on in Feb?
Altough the dog runs up and down the hillside like its a bowling green, I'd break my neck trying to go down and look and I'd need fixed ropes to get back up.
