Isn't it funny how PH works....

... a month ago - some fella asks for advice on a big, frugal family car.
I relay my experience of a Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 TD that i owned last a while back. The final words of my post were: "I could easily talk myself into getting another one...."
Fast forward to today, and I have a a completely un-frugal V6 4.0 petrol guzzling beast sat on the drive.
For a big old thing, it certainly has a decent turn of speed.
Now - I'm not sure if i would have even contemplated getting another one had the post not primed my memory and kicked me off into looking into running costs, tax, insurance etc. and ultimately purchase...
anyone else bought 'under the influence', as it were?

I do wonder how much some PHers are influenced by some of the opinions on here.
I can imagine a father of a few kids buying an Elise then trying to justify to the wife.
My dad had a similar affliction and convinced my mum that a string of rather tiny cars were great family wagons - 928 (my sister and I used to sleep on the back shelf on occasion - when we were rather little!), 924 Turbo, 3 x uR Quattros, a 308 GT4 (bizarre Ferrari), etc, etc. He was a sort of vintage PHer really and still drives a mk1 BMW Mini Cooper S and HATES diesels. So much so that his Transporter (T25) is a 2.1i slightly tuned and lowered and Mum's RAV4 is a petrol version. He was pretty gobsmacked driving my 335d but he still takes the pi55!
