So I took everyones advice, drained off some of the water and let the rest spill out
So the tank is out, so is the bracket.
The wiper motor is all undone and the only thing holding it in place is the long springy bit that goes into the wipers. How on earth so I get that out, the brass nut is off, if I pull it the wipers move. I was considering just taking the wiper motor gearbox apart and doing it that way but I'm sure there must be a more 'correct' way of doing it.

Help..please...

PS It has taken about 30 mins so far.

I'll be doing the same thing tomorrow night.

I've done this once before on my old Rover, and basically, you need to remove the cover plate (held on by those little 6mm bolts) carefully, watching for gears etc. that might leap out, and then disconnect the cable that operates the wiper arms from there.

Good luck!

Simon is right, the gearbox has to come apart. The rack (coiled wire) that passes down the tube to they wipers is connected to a crank in the gearbox, just unhook it and withdraw the assembly.

Don't under any circumstances be tempted to pull the rack out from the tube. If you disassemble the gearbox make certain you make a note of the gear positions. Once the motor is unhooked, check to see that the rack operates freely by moving the wipers by hand before attacking the motor.
