just picked up a porsche 944 turbo, it has already been chipped giving 266bhp and 307 ft lb torque.

who do i speak to regarding increasing power further, and what are the basic next stages for more power.

i did a google search but didnt find out a great deal

any other tips for getting a 944 turbo track car to a good track biased spec.
i will of course be stripping the car out, it already has 911 cup wheels 10j rears, and runs 928 s4 big brembos. i will be running coilover suspension, strut braces etc

many thanks

Hi,I have two 944 turbos both Street cars, both been tuned to different degrees, one has about 300 bhp the other a bit more..
In 2010 I built a 944 turbo to run in the CSCC Future Classics series which is more the sort of thing you are asking about,if you are building a track day vehicle but using it on the road try the KW variant 3 suspension it will do the job for track days and not corrode in winter with road use, they have race set-ups also, powerwise a low state of tune about 290 - 300 bhp, then lighten the car,you can do this and the car will be very reliable, my ex race car car ran like this for a whole race season plus extra races and it was bulletproof.Of course the car needs to be in fine fettle before taking it further and your tuner should check this all this first..
The people I have used for all my 944 turbo power tuning that is off the shelf tried and tested is Promax Motorsport, speak to Andy Everett, they have tuned a lot of 944 turbos and offer great off the shelf packages depending upon what you are after,They are very busy guys with more modern machinery 996 turbos etc, but are very good and know the older cars inside out,one of the guys there also raced 944 turbos back in the day and gave me some great advice. They won't keep your car for months on end they offer fit and forget solutions, for what you are asking in the u.k I wouldn't talk to anyone else.

Your bank manager smile, it's an old car and it sounds like you are looking for more before you've got to know the car, if you are thinking £1000's to modify go for it, if you are budgeting £100's good luck.

I'd agree that talking to Andy at Promax is a good starting point. They've not only built 400+ BHP cars but done it reliably. Ollie at RPM Technic is another person to try, they build anything from "fast road" to race-spec 944s.

spoke to a few people today and im most likely for the minute going to leave the major tuning work alone for a while and concentrate on getting the chassis setup to its optimum, and go weight saving as much as possible while still keeping the car road legal for the minute. the only thing i may want to do is fit a dual port wastegate to keep the boost pulling up the top of the rev range as like most turbo cars it tails off a bit.

im going to fabricate a custom inlet system, exhaust, and concentrate on cooling of the engine/inlet temps and brake temps, to make sure the car is reliable on track when given a thrashing.

will think about speaking with promax etc once the car is setup right and i have got accustomed to the car and its current power.

cheers

I'd have thought a google search would bring back piles of stuff.
I'd run it for a while and see what falls off. After that the sky is the limit - how fast do you want to go and how much money do you want to spend?
If you aren't doing the mechanics yourself then get someone who knows what they are doing to do it. I picked mine up from a 5 week stay at Promax today and first impressions are good and its plenty quick enough!
Register on Rennlist too as there is always plenty going on over there.
If all else fails fit a LS1 V8!

Register on the PCGB forum (you don't have to be a member) there are a few 944 Turbo-nutters over there. Mine only has a couple of tweaks from Promax, but the engine will take a lot of playing with

Go onto the Porsche forums by all means but dont take as gospel everything you read, there are knowledgeable people but there's also plenty of rehashed internet hearsay especially relating to turbo's.
