Hi All,

Picked up my '97 400 on Friday evening and it's frankly fanstatic but have noticed a couple of issues/niggles that i'd like to resolve:

1) A couple of times I have knocked the wipers on by accident and they then don't respond to the stalks (In fact when they do stop they seem to want to park at almost 90 degrees from where they should.

From reading online I have checked about both my brake lights work (and I assuming I have the Bosch motor) so whats the next steps... start taking things apart and cleaning them?

2) Drivers window is veeeerrrrryyyyyy slow to go up - again is there some contacts I can clean/repair or do I need to look at replacing parts? I need use of the window as when I shut the drivers door the wing mirror moves!

Apart from that it's great...

Cheers,
Phill

Phil,

Park switch might be worth a try for the wipers, not sure about the window though.

They're not niggles, they're an integral part of TVR ownership. Enjoy. thumbup

How do you get the wipers back to rest? Sounds like a friction issue to me.

Eventually they stop on their own... I was wondering if it was a relay issue?

Just to say I had mine delivered on saturday and still haven't stopped grinning like a Cheshire Cat!!

In answer to No2: I was told by a mechanic that the lack of movement on your leccie windows could be down to a dirt build up on the runners and he said furniture polish does the trick! I was wondering if something like a small ammount WD40 would free them up too...might be worth a try.

I also have the same issue with my wing mirrors but haven't had time/good weather to try to resolve it.

Bring on the Summer!! hehe

I took the doorpanel off (pita) to fix my cigarette lighter, while I had it off I lubed up the guide/runners that the windows go down into. I used some silicone stuff that dont damage rubber, the kind you put on rubber seals around the door to stop it from freezing shut in the winter etc...

If you are running a Lucas wiper motor then you probably need one of these:

http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/classic-mini...

It cured my problem of wipers that simply stopped where they felt like it!
Search on fleaBay or via Google for the best price . IIRC I paid about a tenner delivered.

Whip the door card off.... you may as well sort the mirror at the same time.

Ok,

Managed to sort out the window issue with some copper grease - its still not 100% but better than it was!

Wipers are a Lucas motor so haven't sorted anything with that yet (although I think the relay needs replacing as the casing has been damaged)

On to the next couple of characteristics:

1) Drivers door won't open when I press the button under the mirror - worked to start with, then worked 50% of the time and has now stopped... assuming it's the solenoid so will pick one up from Maplin at the weekend!

2) Speedo packed up - No issues previously, driving down a DC, accelerated off the roundabout up to 70mph, cruised for about 1/2 mile then the speedo dropped to 0 and hasn't worked since (neither has the mileometer

Guessing that issue 2 is related to the sensor near the diff so i'm seeing Oggs at the weekend to borrow his copy of the "Bible"

Final query - what products are people using to keep they're cars clean? I'm going to avoid the pressure washer due to the rear window but I guess i'm ok with the usual 2 bucket process / clay bar / polish with DA and wax?
