180bhp? I'd have expected it to be getting closer to 200bhp.

Are they just slow to up their game, or have decided they are being left behind?

My son tells me his 2007 VXR Corsa is 197.

Given the size of that grill maybe its a misprint and its actually 1800bhp smile Seriously 180bhp may be enough if its light?

I suspect it is deliberate as it distances it from the Focus ST and so it won't poach sales. They always have the option then of an RS version.

Look back at Ford's warm hatches, and it's a similar story.

Fiesta Zetec-S: 100bhp vs Citroen Saxo VTS: 120bhp
Fiesta ST: 150bhp vs Renault Clio 172: guess!
Focus ST: 225bhp vs Renault Megane: 250bhp

I think didn't VW go the same way? ,Whereas the SEAT/Skoda where higher HP outputs.

The megane didn't have 250bhp at release, that was one of the later versions. Around the same time the mounttune ST 260 came out IIRC?

Too late and too little BHP. If it was 100kgs lighter it might help but all these 'hot hatches' are horrible heavy wallowy things weighing the best side of 1250 kg's. Pug 205 / Golf Gti / Saxo weights with modern safety methods and 190 BHP would be ideal, thank you.

The standard Fiesta only weighs a ton so I don't know why it'd suddenly gain another quarter of a ton for being a bit faster.

I'm sure it'l come with the option of a factory endorsed Mountune package that'll probably boost it into the 200+BHP category. The standard price will probably undercut the Corsa VXR as well. Not too happy with the front end looks though...

Not a looker from the front, looks like they are following peugeot's lead.

The front is ugly as fk you would have to be blind to buy that. Also not even 200 bhp Ford have let themselves down here.

To be fair, the Focus ST looks better in the metal than in pictures - this may be the same.

180bhp is sensible. Gets people into the cars. Those who want more will go the (Ford approved) Mountune route.

2.0 Turbo 250bhp AWD Fiesta set for 2013.

That would be nice.
