Replacing my Civic Type R
Discussion
My CTR is coming up to it's 3 year birthday and I need to decide whether to pay off the lump sum and keep the car or change the car for something else. As much as I love the car I am looking for something more economical, comfier to drive but still with some fun.
It needs to be less than 3 years old with lowish mileage (30,000 or less) reasonably economical (so probably diesel) and £15,000 or less.
Am I being stupid or any good suggestions out there?

Keep the CTR. Even with the increased cost of keeping it on the road as it ages you'll save money vs the depreciation and dealer profit on the newer car.
Also if you used to high reving petrol with good handling like the CTR will a diesel keep you happy? Have you test drove any?
Oh I'll get this out the way before anyone else - MX5!

Since you are as good as leasing the ownership, perhaps you can hand it back and get a clio sport for new car fun?It needs to be less than 3 years old with lowish mileage (30,000 or less) reasonably economical (so probably diesel) and £15,000 or less.

Being in a similar situation a year ago (FN2?) I bought an MR-2 Roadster
Well it's more economical anyway
I found that despite all the s
t everyone throws at the FN2, I found a lot of cars (e.g. Z4 3.0l, 330Ci) to be quite blunt feeling/boring when driving them (although that might make them more comfortable depending on your point of view).
Only the likes on an RX-8/S2000 could match the CTR for driving pleasure. The MR2 was sharper still handling wise, although I wish it had a K20...
Actually an MX-5 mk3 2.0 might be in for a shout? Engine still not quite a K/F20 of course but I liked the power delivery and not gutless like the mk2 1.8s.
All IMO
just test drive a variety of vehicles and take it from there.

Power delivery of a MK2 MX5 isn't too dis-similar to FN2. Obviously no vtec and less power but high revving and sluggish at low rev's are similarities. When you are 'on it' you are never at the gutless end of either. I do prefer the engine of the 1.6 eunos for 'revvyness' though.

Also the Seat Ibiza Cupra with the same engine. I suggested the Polo as IMO it is the best looker from the 3 but that is down to personal taste.http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3683786.htm
They go really well, are good around town and according to reports are quite economical. I think all 3 cars are lovely!

Knowing nothing about these cars, is there not a huge difference between a 2ltr and 1.4ltr car? They go really well, are good around town and according to reports are quite economical. I think all 3 cars are lovely!

Well they do have 180ps so are by no means slow. I'm sure they won't offer the thrills of a CTR but I would guess they are a hoot to live with.Nice place to sit as well IMO, although no doubt the PH masses will call them boring?

Hmm, we had a MK2 1.8 MX-5 at the same time as an EP3, and to be honest I wouldn't compare the engines at all. The Mazda engine needs revs, in the sense that you need a low gear if you want meaningful acceleration, but it doesn't thrive on them like the Honda unit and it feels harsh and strained at the top end. You'll die a little inside going from a screaming VTEC to a low revving diesel. It needs to be less than 3 years old with lowish mileage (30,000 or less) reasonably economical (so probably diesel) and £15,000 or less.

I was looking for this thread: PH'er bought a Polo Gti and there was quite a lot of discussion I think!
