Any views on aftermarket ignition amps, or other upgrades for the ignition.
I still have a low rev lumpy idle and stumble to pick up, and I am sure it is ignition.

You really need to optimize what you have got stock, the standard Lucas kit is more than capable of doing its job scratchchin its only at the higher RPM spectrum things suffer & more so with higher states of tunes/outputs frown are you sure its an ignition related problem? wink Of course saying all that there are big drive-ability gains with mapped ignition i.e Megasquirt(with the option of fuelling too) Megajolt, Omex etc etc

I'd want to make sure that everything else (leads, cap, rotor, plugs) are all 100% before going for an upgrade. I'd also fit a Bosch coil. That ought to rule out a lot of the most common glitches.

I'd also want to ensure that the ignition timing was spot on. Actually I'm still mulling over how to do this myself. There are various stories about TDC makers sometimes being wrong etc. I guess this is a job for a specialist really.

The other thing to think about might be injectors. It could be worth getting these cleaned and checked out. I'm thinking that could easily be the cause of the idle/pick-up problem?

I checked TDC on mine with a dial gauge and it was spot on.

Stop taking the p*ss Daz, someone might believe you ! The only gain with that lot is a lighter wallet......

OP- dont assume a lumpy idle is sparks without some sort of diagnostics. The ECU can do some pretty strange things if a sensor fails, so first check you plug colours across all 8 plugs- it will at least give you a pointer.

Rebuilt engine last year and checked tdc, bang on.
All plugs look lovely and very uniform in colour.
I have done a fair bit of new wires, dizzy cap and rotor and ignition amp and coil.
It just appears to have a weker spark at 900rpm than 1500 rpm, I measured it with a meter.
