Alex

Find a place under the dash (Out of reach from outside the car) and fit a replacment switch and then wire to the original or back to the boot!

did think about repositioning button as i'm currently considering a redesign of dash layout including buttons, dials, vents and gauges but shouldn't say too much as might upset the purist's lol, the problem is its quite a big hole in door shut to fill especially as car has already been painted!!!

How about working it off a relay based on the indicators going (on both sides at the same time)?

Then you can open the boot with the alarm remote clicker, or the hazard warning switch...

All the wiring can be done in the boot behind the black plastic trim.

Funny thing is at times I am a bit of a purist but when you have no option you have to think out of the box. Ref the old switch leave it there so the purist can't complain. biggrin

Mine is that way. Never use the button, button is staying put though.

Just did mine, removed the old plastic switch from the square housing, there is a nut on the back, opened the hole and installed a push button starter switch I picked up from a motor factors, about £7

I got a replacement button/switch from RS Components for my 400SE.
I do not remember the exact part and the car is not currently outside my door to check.
Possibly it was RS Components item 724-3333, but I seem to recall that mine has a square mount and a round push-button, however I bought the switch many years ago and their catalogue may have changed over the years.

You will need to solder a couple of tails to the switch and fit spade connectors.
