I thought I'd share this with you all, as it's the first time so far that I've seen this.

Here's a low miles 1996 993 (C4) with 47K on the clock priced at £32K. Then below that is an 06 997 (C4S) with 46K on the clock for £31K.

http://www.northway.co.uk/16821/npl_stock.htm

I guess some of you may well have seen this, but I've been sitting, watching and waiting for this to happen and here's the first instance I've seen so far.

If you see a pig flying then maybe it's possible for 996's as well smile

I don't understand this post. With many, albeit basic, 997s down to low £20K (e.g. £21K / £22K), then this happened a long time ago (like 1 to 2 years ago) as many nice 993's are over £25K.

Glad I'm not the only one who also thinks this.

Perhaps, but my comparison is with a 997 Carrera S, not a standard 997.

I myself have only recently observed a merging of the prices between 997 Carrera S and good 993's. I'm sure the standard 997 is will down there.

I guess I don't observe the prices often enough to keep a keen eye, so if they've been like this for 997 Carrera "S" and nicer 993's then it's now news to me.

As a 993 owner myself, it's good news for the 993.

Yes, that's about it.

I've also not seen a "standard" (non "S") 993 asking price of £32K recently even for a low miles. Noticed another recently at PS for around £28K, but that had about 78K on the clock. Perhaps I've missed the market a little?

My god, the market has moved on! I'd be breaking out the champerz now if my 993 didn't have 95K on the clock smile Well not quite, but it's good to see the 993 holding it's own as it were....I think a couple of years ago it didn't have quite the same place in the market.

Yawn. I think the 997 has been sold to someone on here, but the 993 might take some time to sell at that price. Still, you 993 owners do like to pat yourselves on the back, so I suppose if it does sell at that price, it's QED and you've hit pay dirt ..... if you were then to sell your own car! spin

To be honest who really cares.
It just makes the 997 a really exciting ownership proposition and the 993 an over priced old Porsche.

Oh gosh, I wouldn't sell my own car. I've had it 6 years and couldn't part with it. Thanks for the thought though. What about you? Have you thought about a 993? You wouldn't have to worry so much about your RMS and IMS or anything with acronym going wrong on your 997.

I guess you must care? You took the time to respond and then make a sweeping and totally subjective 'statement'.

You may well be right, but I am pretty sure that's what 944 owners used to say 15 years ago and now look where they are. Boxsters seem to be in the same camp, it won't be long before £10K and a lot less will buy you a 997, 996, Cayman (??), Boxster, 968, 944, 928 or 924 and only the tatty air cooled cars.

That could well be quite a choice to make, but also means the modern cars are going to be quite some bargain.

The 993, like virtually any of the air-cooled 911 range can be owned and fixed forever.
The 996, 997 and probably the 991 can't.
Modern cars are becoming short-term ownership vehicles and even though the oldest 986 is 15 years old, I wonder how many owners had then even close to that length of time.

There is nothing wrong with the water cooled range, it's merely a change of culture and lifestyle choices.

Air cooled is a fad that has held value. For the purists. People who know what its about.

I don't expect same to happen for 996/7.

However I am hoping a similar thing happens with Metzger engined cars like my turbo. People who know will value it...maybe!

So then what it's worth is irrelevant, surely? A warranty means I sleep at night and having driven a 993 - I actually prefer my newer car! smile

It's each to their own really in terms of which car is "best". The 993's pricing is only driven by their (lack of) availability.

If you want a rusty car with dated dynamics, a shambolic interior and heavy clutch that still somehow floats your boat, then great. I'll take a 997 any day but that's just me.

Considering what Porsche spends on R&D, it's hard to argue that the 996 and 997 are not "better" cars, just some people like the 993 better. Some people like cars that are not even made by Porsche better too. How messed up is that?

As for this thread on pricing, well lots of people like and want 993s and there are not many about so the prices are "high". Lots of people also like and want 996 and 997 but there are bucket loads to choose from, so the prices are not "high". Prices of (most) 993s will continue to exceed prices of (some) 997s. So what?

Considering what Porsche spends on R&D, it's hard to argue that the 996 and 997 are not "better" cars, it's just a shame they're built to a price and made from chocolate! Lots of people also like and want 996 and 997 but they have never made love to a woman!
Don't think 993 prices are "only" driven by lack of availability, that's just silly, but I agree with the rest! smile
