TV Brackets - wheres the technology at now?
Discussion
Simple question really: we're moving to a new home at the weekend and we've (I mean I've
)got 4 TVs to hang.
Theres a 52" plasma in the lounge, a 32" LCD in the back room, a 24" LCD and a 22" LCD in the boys bedrooms.
Brackets at places like B&Q seem to be rather simple affairs for quite a bit of money and I'm sure there are some great brackets out there, so what should be I be looking for?
The 52" just needs to be tilt-able as it will be slightly higher than normal sightline, above a shelf over a decorative gas fire, the 32" probably needs to tilt and swivel and come out from the wall a bit as its in an alcove beside an old chimney breast, and the two smaller ones should be tilt and possibly swivel, although that might not be required.
Walls are a mixture of brick and plaster (old plaster at that) for the 52" and the 32" and plasterboard over brick for the two smaller ones.
Ideally I'd like to order in the next day or so for delivery before the weekend, so I'll open this to the floor now
PS anything out of exotic alloys or carbon fibre or with silly money prices doesn't count!

This whole 'wall bracket' scam thing seems to have got out of hand.
The outlets for TV's (Currys etc.) seem to all sell wall brackets for 50, 70, 100 quid.
Ridiculous, and when I questioned the price, the sales drone recited an obviously oft-used sales patter of 'well, you wouldn't want your 600 quid TV dropping off the wall, would you?'
My first Plasma was bought in 2004, and I admit, it was heavy. But I sat it on a stand, so didn't buy a wall bracket.
However, having bought plasmas and LCD's lately - they're very much lighter now!
So just look on Ebay like I did - decent brackets to be had for 15, 20 quid now.
Enjoy.

We hang up to 55" Plasma TV's all the time on exhibition stands and we buy simple flat no tilting hangers for £12.99 delivered from a UK Ebay supplier.

Same here.
I sourced a cantilever bracket from ebat for my 43" Samsung. It comes with a variety of fixings and a build in sprit level which was actually quite handy. It's very robust and has a nice, smooth action when moving it.
It cost about £33 delivered but if you just need a standard fixed or tilting bracket, they're very cheap indeed.
Like most things, the prep is the most important part of ther job so you need to make sure you fix the bracket correctly.

They're only really worth spending money on if you need something different such as a cantilevered arm or if you fit a lot like we do and you need it to be simple to install the same for each TV in the house (sometimes up to ten TV's per house). The difference in quality with cantilevered brackets can be varied ... we've seen cheap ones which drop 10mm - 20mm when hung, meaning it has to be adjusted again and ends up taking a couple of hours to get right. When you factor in a decent bracket in the first place which takes 30 mins to fit, it can be a false economy for the client.
The reason Curry's etc sell brackets at that price is because they have to. They make single figure margins on TV's so have to make up for that by selling expensive cables and brackets with 500% mark-up's.

I bought one of them about 12 months ago, great thing, comes out about 4 ft from the wall and is solid. I'm using a 42" plasma.
