Will the 2013/4 Cayman look better than the new 911?
Discussion
Not better looking than the 991 in my eyes but certainly better than the current one and a fantastic-looking car in itself.
I guess it'll be selling for £60k, between Boxster and 991.
I admire Porsche's marketing department; to sell the simpler tin top car for more than the convertible is a lesson in margin establishment.

On that evidence no, but surely that's just personal preference. If you have one, people will still think (rightly or wrongly) that you've bought one because you can't afford a 911.
Do people actually think that, or merely say it because they couldn't afford either themselves? In my experience it's the latter. I must say my Cayman has only had positive responses - that wasn't the case for my Box.Particularly the case when a new Cayman S with toys will cost 60k or so - more than enough for a lightly used Gen 2 997 or .1 GT3...
Interesting when people say I would love to get a cayman convertible

What's new? For years they've been selling £100k cars that are little more for them to build than £35k cars.I guess it'll be selling for £60k, between Boxster and 991.

I agree, nothing new. The point I am making is that they seem to go against the tide and price the convertible below the fixed roof one. SS7
This means two things:
- They make well enough margin on the convertible (which is bound to be more expensive to design and build)
- They can make a killing on the fixed roof one (costs less to make than the boxster but sells for 20% more)
Hmmm
Not sure, TBH
I think my Gen 1 Cayman S with sport design alloys is the prettiest car Ive ever owned. I am just a little less impressed with the new gen pics. I think that the grooving in the door panels is just a little OTT and detracts from the otehrwise flowing lines. I also like my neat little front fog lights and see that they appear to have been replaced in favour of those nasty LED jobbies that remind me of a tarts dressing mirror. As others have said, personal choice.
Perversely I rather like the look of the latest gen boxster, which now DOES seem to have more flowing lines (due to better shaping of the hood/boot area). On balance, even thought the Cayman is the best handling car Ive owned, I may well opt for the boxster next time.
As to not being able to afford a 911, personally I can (and test drove several) but opted out of choice for the Cayman because I preferred it. Honestly couldnt give two hoots what others think about that

Exactly. As for the looks, it's down to personal taste. Some people will say the 911 is classic, elegant and streamlined. Others regard it as bloated and would see the Cayman as a much tighter, more cohesive design.
Something about horses and courses springs to mind, but affordability is a red herring.

Agreed 100% I could have brought a 911 that was a couple of years older than my Cayman for the same money. So not being able to afford a 911 could not be further from the truth. I have driven a few 911's and thought the Cayman a better drive and better to look at. That again is a personnel opinion and not meant to antagonist anybody. If anybody has an opinion on my Cayman and me they can keep it to themselves as I am not interested. As for the look of the three new models I like the Boxster and the 991 straight away. The new Cayman has grown on me and I now think it looks great. On looks alone I dont think I could pick which one looks best of the new line up.

That Cayman isn't an official picture, it is just a rendering. As for the look of the three new models I like the Boxster and the 991 straight away. The new Cayman has grown on me and I now think it looks great. On looks alone I dont think I could pick which one looks best of the new line up.
And in the case of the Silver Cayman a poor rendering. The Guards one though - that looks superb. Will be interesting to see the new cars in the flesh - I hope they drive as well as they look. For me the new 981 is the best styling job by Porsche since the CGT - 991 less so - I like the rear 3/4 aspect of the 911, but the rest of the car isn't an improvement so far as I can tell (excluding the interior which I like).
I have to say I am not a fan of the 991s droopy face. The 997 is more classical and classy. The new front end looks like they have taken a 997 and stretched it on a rack! But I do like how the 991 is less tall than the 997.
If that's the look of new Cayman I think it is more attractive than the 991. I still think that in the right colour, the 987.2 Cayman looks wonderful...

Looks good in the pics but would want to see more. My problems aesthetically with the current Cayman are the rear which just doesn't look quite right somehow and the domed roofline (more visible from a head on view). Would need a head-on and rear-on view to be more sure. But it does look good.
I should point out also that the new Boxster looks fantastic and the current Cayman is fantastic car. Just not quite right visually for me.

And as Snapper said earlier "Honestly couldnt give two hoots what others think about that"!
Buying anything, whether a car or otherwise, on the basis of what other people will think would be a very strange thing to do.
Anyway, your 991 does indeed look lovely! Enjoy!
Let's wait and see what the 981 Cayman looks like in reality and then the debate will be settled once and for all. That's a joke, btw. This one will run longer than Coronation Street.
