Vauxhall Nova, getting rare, increasing in value ?
Discussion
I think the poor old Nova has done its time in limbo, being badly modified, thrashed and crashed by baseball hat wearers, was walking the dog last night and a tidy, subtly done one went past and, for me anyway it looked great. They have a look that you don't see now, everything is all blobby, really good proportions, factory wide arches and a good stance. There is competition pedigree and I reckon straight Novas are going to go up this year, not quite Escort mk1/mk2 territory but don't be surprised when you see the going for decent money and utter heaps getting way more attention than you would expect.
So, anyone with a barn, some straw and a few quid, get collecting Novas and stashshing them.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I read this post.
But there is a very small element of truth in it.
The SRis and the GTEs were quite effective little rally cars and nice ones will be worth preserving.
But they certainly aren't destined for greatness like Mk1 Escorts or Mini Coopers.
Maybe they might achieve the status of XR2s?
We had a 1.5 TD back in the 1990s. It was an absolute bomber which would hit an indicated 115mph when hammered and would do 63mpg when driven gently.
Perhaps this is to damn the Nova with feint praise, but it was a much better car than the Corsa that replaced it.

As daft as it sounds I think the OP is bang on. There is a very good chance that the Nova will shoot up particularly the sports models in exactly the same way that the Mk1 Escort has. The Fords rally success is only a small part of why the car has gone up in value, the majority of the reason is that lots of blokes like myself in there mid forties that used to buy them for fifty quid and run them into the ground (generally with the bonnet holding down the front suspension arms because they had rotted out of the inner wings) now have good jobs and would love to recreate a bit of the fun we had when we were kids. Although my back probably wouldn't let me repeat some of my favourite antics on the vinyl back seats
It all starts going up when blokes with a bit of money in there pocket start bidding against each other. Not all the Chavs that drove them will be in prison when they get to my age. Some of the little cherubs will have good jobs, and be prepared to shell out for the best available.
We are looking at another ten fifteen years before this happens

Mint ones already increasing.
I've often look at these (reliving teenage nostalgia when i really really wanted a GTE one but couldnt afford it)
A mint GTE with low miles will already be north of £2.5k

Clean tidy SR and GTE already have gone up in value as they are so rare to find.
How much do the homologation special Nova Sports fetch now?I drove my mates old 1.3 SR and it handled so much better than any Corsa I've been in. It was underpowered but a decent GTe would make quite a fun little car.
I think the OP is right never had a Nova but one of my mates did he did a few subtle mods to it it was a brillant little car he really looked after it he sold it to buy a Saxo VTS (or was it a VTR?)and regretted it the woman he sold it to never looked after it he hasn't seen it for a few years now he tinks its probally been scrapped. I know if he could he's buy another one to mess around with.
A guy on my road has one and thats looks very nice don't see many about now but thoose that you do see are normally tidy examples the same as ford capris you don't see many of thoose either
