M42 adapter for canon.

Just wondering if useing an adapter for other cheaper lenses actually makes sense or do you lose a lot of quality due to it not being a canon lense.

When i got my camera it came with an m42 adapter and i have not got any lenses that use it, is it just a cheap way of buying lenses of the same quality?

That's a fair swap, that is......
Ahem....sorry, but before I get my coat, I think it's a great way to try out some ancient stuff if you want to - old screw mount M42/Pentax screw lenses can be had for next to nothing. But you won't expect good quality.
I was very pleasantly surprised a few years back when I dusted off an old Tamron lens from (probably) the 70s if not the 60s and got a mount to pop it onto a digital Nikon.
If you stop yourself from pixel peeping and take shots in RAW so you can do lots of tweaking there were some goodish results to be had.
Old lenses will tend to flare like hell, colour rendition might be a bit hit and miss and watch out for the dreaded fungus killing them off. Nothing wrong with a couple of scratches and a bit of dust but fungus is THE END.
Obviously you are manual everything too. Some modern dSLRs cope better than others with giving you control.
Anyway....
