Small Investment - Business Angels
Discussion
I am now 8 - 9 months in to my new wholesale/distribution company, and I have to say I love it, best move I ever made.
However, I am now at the point where I need to look for a little bit of extra investment to make the best of the products I have coming on board.
One of manufacturer is launching a new product range and wants me to be one of their two speciallist distribution channels for the South East.
This is great for me, a 8 month start up, but it will mean looking for small warehouse premises and possibly employing someone etc.
Anyone looking to place a small investment a start up business, Performing to business plan and already turning a profit for the year? Alternatively any advise on getting a business angel involved?
(And I will personally track down and
the anyone who offers £2.50
)
Thanks
Chris

you probably know all this alreayd, but here goes...
the southern Business Angels network is run from their london office in southwark street. It's part of the GLE (Gretare London Enterprise) which is affiliated to all sorts of govt sponsored small business advisroy / investment companies. Their number is 020 74030300.
They have presentation afternoons every 6/7 weeks where selected businesses are given the opportunity to speak / network / present to approx 10-20 'angels'. There are 200 angels affiliated to the london office.
To get to that stage, companies such as yours will need to meet the London Business Angels team who will evaluate your proposition, give you tips on how to best present your business plan etc, and will then put you in front of the angels. The majority of these presentations are held in the City - I've been to the Lloyds Building, Guildhall etc.
If succesful, and a number of angels (or just 1) are keen to invest, the London Business Angels' sister company - LSC, london seed capital - may match their investment either partly or fully.
Companies are typically looking for £50K - £1m. May be worth giving them a call and having a chat. They're quite successful - in that lots of companies DO get cash out of these days. I have seen some real dogs, though!
If you're already turnign a profit, you're foots itnhe door - a lot of the ones I have seen are not expecting to break even for 3/4 years.
Hope this helps, and best of luck!
