New Boxster 2.7 or used 997.2 C2?
Discussion
For around £45k I can buy a decent, low mileage 997.2 C2 or a new 2012 Boxster 2.7 with a reasonable spec (manual, 19s, park assist, nav, bluetooth, xenons, etc). Until the new model, the Boxster didn't have enough leg room for me, but now it should be Ok. I really like the new style too. Thoughts?
Crikey, how tall are you?
Even Zyp can fit into a 987 Boxster and he's eleventy feet tall.
Only you can decide what to go for, historically, they do drive quite differently but nobody who has driven the new Boxster has published their findings yet. Neither is likely to disappoint, short or long term. 997 may have you dreaming for a 991, new Boxster is lovely and new.

FWIW I was in a similar position a few years ago. I figured is was going to be my one and only opportunity to buy a new Porsche to my desired specification and enjoy all that went with the buying experience. I did just that and don't regret it at all, although my next Porsche will be somewhat older.
BTW I'd ditch some of the expensive doodah's and tick the 'factory collection' box. A 2.7 really doesn't need to cost more that £40k.

Surprised you can't get comfy in a 987 Boxster, you're not much taller than me and I've never had an issue. If you could fit in a new one of those you could save ten grand! Don't suppose that helps you though!
If you like reclining your seat you're always going to get more space inside a 911.

I think the new Boxster is going to ruffle a few feathers in the dynamics department. The 911 on the other hand is a so much more than just raw handling. It's an acquired taste; one that tends to get more addictive as time goes on.
Truth be told, a new Boxster S will probably wipe the floor with the 997 over any decent bit of road/track, but to compare the two simply in terms of lap times is to miss the point entirely.
Me? I'd still take the 911 I think.

I just fit a 987, but I like to stretch out a bit on long journeys - I don't want a car that feels marginal. If you like reclining your seat you're always going to get more space inside a 911.
I saw the new Boxster in the Geneva Motor Show yesterday and spent some time sitting in one. My thoughts:
1. For tall people: definitely enough leg room for me. Also the seat goes very low, so you can avoid that "peering over the top of the windscreen" feeling.
2. Styling is a big change from the 987. Obviously the details are different, but so is the overall shape. The car has lost much of its front / rear symmetry, which is a good thing IMO. The rear wings are more curvy and the soft top looks good raised. I think the small increase in wheelbase and length makes it look more balanced too.
3. Wheels: everything seemed to be on 20s in the Porsche stand. Unlike the photos, they do NOT look too big (and I'm not a fan of big wheels). I expect 19s will look fine, but 20s are definitely not OTT.
4. Colour: almost all the show cars were in boring silver and motor show lighting is quite different to UK daylight, so not very helpful. I expect bright colours will work best.
5. Interior: a nice place to be. The Panamera style buttons in the centre console will be very bare and look strange if you don't order all the toys - is this another way to get you to spec more?
Would I buy one: yes, if I wanted a soft top - thinking i'll stick with a C2 coupe, but still tempted.
