I have a few tiny cracks on my wooden dash board, i've read through some threads on PH that there are several options in regards to what material you can replace this with! alluminium, carbon fibre etc etc.

Has anyone used leather to wrap round the dash? or is this a complete no no?

on a serious note has anyone wrapped leather on the dash before? can it be done?

ive got the spending bug, cant help but want to get things done to the car!!

having the whole car buffered to get the light scratches out tomorrow, having the steering wheel gear nob/handbrake gaiter re leathered in the chianti colour, boot hinge repair, front indicators lense replaced ........

i cant see getting 15 people buying those spider alloys!!!

I guess it must be possible to use leather.
You could use a thick leather and cut it in the same way as a veneer.
But I'd want to know how well leather would cope with sitting in direct sunlight or having the heater vents getting hot.
Would you need to treat it to stop it splitting?
Might be worth asking these guys what they can do

I was quoted around £130 for a dash finished in their Ellwood design.

ment to dd, if you do do it, or get someone else to do it, note that if you warp it in leather you will need to open the gauge holes up further as you will lose 1-2mm depending on how thick the leather is and therefore the dials will not fit back in the holes when you come round to refitting wink

Why would the leather crack if you used it on the dash and not crack when it is used on the dashtop?

Where are the hot air vents that can cause damage?

And if you trim the leather up to the holes for the dials wont the dial bezels cover and grip the edge of the leather....?

I think it would look good...i might trim one up as i have some spare mild steel dashboards and have got loads of black and grey leather....perks of working for a car seat manufacturer....!!

hi Barreti, just spoke to these guys and unfortunately they do not use leather on there dashes, so do not know much about the pro and cons of it all, but, thanks anyway..

hello mate, i have bought the hide leather and i went for the Burgundy (merlot red, chianti colour) to match the chianti carpets and door trimmings! was going to go portland grey, but i think it will be too, too grey in within the cockpit! i love the colour chianti red! must be because my Italian parents made me drink wine at an early age rather than breast milk.. hahaha..

i bet its driving you crazy not being able to drive your Chim.. im well excited to see it finished...

Hi Andy, not to sure i understand your question, i think your right the fans are not directed towards the leather so should be ok. I was thinking about the leather on the other side which will be on the inside of the dash!! i guess it gets really hot there so would the glue just melt, therefore cause problems!!! i reckon the car would look really good with leather.. if you want to do a chim dash board in burgundy colour i have the leather and a place to put your master work!! hint hint nudge nudge!!!

there is no real hard part about covering the dash in leather apart from the lights for the heater controls...you would not be able to make a tidy small hole in the leather that would let the lights shine through.

I have got some greay leather so i might give it a go this weekend...thats if i can get the megasquirt working first!!!

Too many projects - not enough time...!

im going to leave this part to the professionals. Im hoping that they will be able to make it look great. Im sure with a bit of patience and accuracy they will make it work with the heater controls...
