Thinking of a private plate for my shortly to arrive, 997. Been looking on Dvla which seems very reasonable with all of the fees included. Question is when I go to get my plates made up, what options do you have with the plates themselves or are they all generic?

Your local OPC (official Porsche centre) will do a set for around £20 or so , probably about the same as your local Halfrauds. Best not to mess about with the plate, your car (good purchase by the way - I have an 06 997C4S in black!) will do the talking! Enjoy your new toy!

Thanks for the reply. Not thinking of anything silly just wondered if you could have the Porsche badge on them which from your post looks like I can!! Cheers.

With plates, many consider that less is more. As said, let your car do the talking! Happy driving!

technically no you cannot have the porsche badge on the side of the plate if thats what yoy mean. However it is normally the font and spacing that gets the most attention so if you keep that standard you normally don't get bothered.

Better to have porsche centre on the bottom than halfords surely.

Don't forget to tell your insurance company of your new number plate otherwise you'll be pulled by the police for having no insurance (registered to your plate).

That's exactly what I did when I recently bought my private plate, looks good too much better than Joe Bloggs Motor Factors or something else, they cost £24 including fixings from the OPC.

Here's a pic...

Obviously not to scale but isn't the spacing wrong on that?

Why would you want to advertise a porsche OPC?

Well, my plates advertise 911 Virgin...they helpfully replace the orginal OPC plates with their own advertisments saying in my case the old plates were tatty. The 911V plates are guaranteed to lead to some pisstaking at work

The OPC advertising stands out, the Halfords one is pretty much invisible from a distance of > two feet!

You could make the argument I suppose that non-OPC plates would suggest the car has perhaps seen a front or rear knock at some point. It's a bit of a stretch granted but you never know...

The first thing I did when I bought my car from an OPC was remove all the advertising (tax disc holder/number plates etc.).

Why?

Do people really see that stuff as advertising? Can't say it has ever really bothered me that my plates have an OPC's name on, or the tax disc holder does.

Keep the OPC logoed plates for the original registration number, get yours from here (cheapest I've found, excellent quality and the maker's logo is small and unobtrusive): http://stores.ebay.co.uk/DJH-Number-Plates

My reg has a letter then a 1 then three more letters, the 1 makes the whole lot look compacted, when I first saw the plates I though they could be closer still.

I think it looks good having a OPC name on it no other reason.

Excellent..hehe.

Soddem Hall,

Good luck finding a private plate, the DVLA site is great but the search doesn't always pick out every available combination I found mine by pure chance.
