Just about to change the discs and pads - Is it best to go with the oem from clever trevor or similar or go down the line of EBC grooved type discs ?

Hi Ewan from my experiences with the Chims brakes The only difference i noticed after playing with a few combo's was when i moved to the 4 pot wilwood set up.

I would just use OEM parts for the Disc's and a good brand of Pads Like mintex or ferodo and some braided lines as well while your at it. I ran the EBC yellow stuff and found them ok but i prefer the above brands.

I read up loads about this before changing mine and ended up with standard Discs and Ferodo DS2500 (i think) pads on the front and fairly standard discs and pads on the rear. They made a big difference to the breaking ability particularly with repeated braking.

There will be lots of opinions about this im sure and may depend how you drive your car. I mainly was looking for better braking for fast road use especially avoiding brake fade e.g. when driving through Milton Keynes and constantly accelerating then braking for roundabouts!

Depends what you're intending to do with the car. I fitted standard vented EBC discs cos I never get them hot enough to fade (too many slow drivers around here and not enough overtake space). Drilled ones are better but others have said they are prone to cracking.

I had the EBC grooved ones, ultima/ultimax or something like that on my 350z and they were very good.

Just looked on EBC and two sizes listed for a 97 450 ?? Did the brakes change mud 97 ?

I will have a look over the weekend to see if i can find the invoice for exact part number, but the Ferodo DS2500 pads i bought from Circuit Supplies who were really helpful: http://www.circuitsupplies.com/ Also, I was driving past them for work so popped in to collect.

I know people have bought from Camskill in the past too. Worth phoning a few places. Think they were about £95 for a front set (2 wheels).

The rear pads I just bought from a local motor factors for about £30 for the rear pair.

Discs i used were Brake Engineering with no grooves or drilled holes (from local motor factors) these were pretty cheap, Maybe £20-30 an axle? Again, I will have to look for the part numbers.

They are I think the same brakes as for a Ford Sierra Cosworth if the motor factors need to look them up.

TVR had two different setups at this time. You have to get the disc with the right height or offset from the hub so that it sits centrally in the calliper. Measure yours and then get the one with the same corresponding height.

Finally found my receipts, see part numbers listed on the invoices below:

My car is a 1998 Chimaera 450

Rear Ferodo brake pads: FER-FDB398
Rear Brake Engineering Brake Discs: BRA-955127

Front Ferodo DS2500 brake pads: FCP276H

Hope this may be some help.
