This story? Happened in Switzerland.

I don't think this particular driver would have been struggling to pay for insurance...

Might have trouble with the fine though, IIRC Switzerland fines are proportional to assets...
Indeed! 180 kph in an 80 kph zone (an A road of some description I would think. Car has been impounded, and for that sort of breach, the fine will be means-related and will be big. I would expect at least 20000 CHF. Serves him right.Gets right on my tits that people can call anything willy nilly a 'rally'.
Mrs Miggins will read this and think how terrible this rallying lark is and then when properly organised and regulated rallies want to pass by her house she'll get the hump and remember this type of thing and object.
Humph.

It is easy to hate based on him being young, good looking and rich, none of those things are crimes but driving at more than double the speed limit is, we can be somewhat two faced on here about speed but I dont think I have ever gone 63 mph over the speed limit in a 50. He should be fined and it shouldnt be trivial as £60 when you have an R8 is not exactly a punishment and doesnt exactly have much of an effect. Age wise, he is 23, not a kid, perfectly able to drive an R8 safely I would imagine if common sense is used.
What I cant abide is these Gumball type events, I think they, as a rule, stink. It is all very well having nice cars but really, a group of owners going and behaving badly, sometimes dangerously whilst usually still pissed fromt he nigth before in someone elses country in very conspicuous vehicles, sure it can be done safely but 113 mph in a 50 suggests that this one wasnt being done that way, all good fun until you kill a Macedonian Pensioner and have to scuttle out of the country.

Quite right, it's hard enough to get decent venues for 12 car road rallies as it is.Mrs Miggins will read this and think how terrible this rallying lark is and then when properly organised and regulated rallies want to pass by her house she'll get the hump and remember this type of thing and object.

if switzerland is anything like the UK, the road in question could have an entirely inappropriate speed limit applied to it, and guess what, there was a swiss plod out monitoring the piggy bank.
that combined with an R8 just about getting out of a jog at 113 could conspire to this not being as reckless as it is being painted.
Granted, it is on the naughty side, but come on. Glass houses and all that. Which of us has, given appropriate circumstances, never 'significantly sped' in the eyes of the law, i know i have!!!!
