Qualifying to remain unchanged in Germany

The FIA has announced that Formula 1's controversial qualifying format will remain unchanged at the German Grand Prix on July 25. A spokesman for the sport's governing body said the qualifying system was being discussed but that all teams had not yet agreed a new format.

Is that the sound of TV's across the world being turned off I here?

Simple qualifying idea for F1.

One qualifying session on Saturday - 1 hour long to decide the grid order.

Teams have a limited number of sets of tyres each weekend anyway so why not do it MotoGP style and say you can have unlimited laps during qualifying. They might choose to do 20 laps on one set and 3 flying laps on the other 3 sets they can afford to use.

At least they should be out during the whole hour.

Or even better you could force some overtaking to happen.

Scrap qualifying and make the grid reverse championship order. Obviously that would only work for complete seasons rather than starting in the middle.

In what other sports do the participants actually dictate the rules and regulations as opposed to the governing body?

Isn't that F1's fundamental problem. Imagine if FIFA or EUFA or the FA had to consult EVERY football team and get a UNANIMOUS result before changing a football rule.
You would get complete stagnation - which is exactly what's happened in F1.

Inmates running the prison - in my opinion.

That's a somewhat different situation. In F1 most (if not all) rule changes have a large financial impact on the teams, this is rarely the case in football.

Also, football players are human and therefore should be able to adapt to rule changes. Cars are not and changes cost a lot of cash.

F1 admin have to ensure that any rule change is not going to financially cripple the teams. Failure to do this would result in empty grids.

I think they should have a 30 minute session to set the grid then have a Super Pole Just like in DTM; but watching F1 cars do it would be great!

Isn't the current one lap showdown system vertually identical to that now anyway?

Pull the names out of hat to determin the grid order, cheaper and more exciting to watch. Has the added bonus of mixing the grid up.

I've always liked the idea of having a reverse grid (either by championship standings or previous race results) but I'd hate to think what would happen at the first corner with the Minardi cars causing some kind of mobile chicane.
