My 150k miles Mk 4 115 hp Tdi Golf has on three occassions lost power whilst I am driving.

All three times it happened at motorway speed when I suddenly realise the car will not accelerate up an incline which it usually flies up. Best way to describe is as if the turbo is not working. Engine has no guts. No warning lights on, nothing, just no guts.

Strange thing is, I stop, switch the car off, and start, and all is fine again? Car goes like stink.

I had the car at my local who could find no problem, had a fault reader connected and nothing showed up?

Any ideas pse?

After it occurs, do you have to turn the engine off/on again before it's back to normal ?

Or will it run fine again after just slowing for a few seconds ?

Could be as simple as an overboost cut ( although would think this would throw some sort of fault code ) or a faulty brake pedal switch ( this may not throw a code )

Hard to say really, even more so with an intermittent problem

Yes I have to turn the engine off for the problem to go away.

On all three occassions I was lashing it a bit, doing 80 (km/h of course cough).

Feels like the engine responds to the first inch of throttle movement, and anything more nothing happens - almost as if the engine is starved of air ( but I am no tech) - engine does not respond to more throttle.

For what it is worth, before this problem surfaced, the glow plug light started flashing about 30 minutes into a trip but stopped again after a while (this happened on two or three trips). No seen this for months now.

Sound like one of the boost valves on the builkhead is playing up , also could be the airflow meter ? needs to be plugged in.
