Z4m Sump plug wont go back in =/
Discussion
Car is currently at BMW getting service done. They said the threads for the sump are gone and as a result cant put the plug in. They have quoted £1000 for new sump which seems crazy. I spoke to an independant guy who can do Helicoil. Only thing with this is the sump would have to come off before this is done as dont want any swarf etc getting in engine, is this a big job? or can it be done saftley leaving the sump on? Any help on this greatly appreciated.

It must have been overtightened or cross threaded, therefore the dealer must have done it.Id be pushing them to sort it.
I had the same thing happen to mine last year. It was replaced under warranty. I would ask them to replace it FOC as you are aware that its a known issue with these cars if the plug is overtightened. If they try and argue the toss ask them if it was OK when you took it in. If so then the threads must have been stripped/damaged at some point during the service.
As for costing £1000 I was originally quoted £600.
