I got up as normal yesterday, put my pasta on for the days lunch, had a shower but then putting my t-shirt on for work, my neck somehow failed. I can turn it left to right, delicately but could not for the life of me look up/down or move my head forwards/backwards (like a pigeon).

I drove to work anyway, hoping it'd just undo itself, but it didn't and had to explain to my manager and workshop controller I wouldn't be able to work. They were very good about it but I did feel like a complete and utter paper hat.

I went back to bed, but the only way I could lay comfortably was with my head between two pillows, almost like a massage bed. Unfortunately, I then woke up at 10.30am with a stiff Jaw that I could only move to the right! frown Phoned work back, explained not going to be able to come in at all.

Fully expecting it to be better this morning, it's not. The pain is from in between my shoulder blades upto the tip of my neck, either side of my spine. I do have a manual job and my right, front muscle is stiff that runs down my neck next to my throat.

Anyone had these exact symptoms? Recommend a doctor, or just let it heel with time?

I have had this since last Saturday, went to the doctor's and was told is likely to be torticollis. Should clear up in a few days, but is quite painful. Was given some Diazepam to help sleep, but think that's a bit overkill tbh. Ibuprofen gel may help?

Both the wife and I have had this, meaning it's infective in origin and most likely to be viral. Torticollis is spasm of the neck muscles (principally sternocleidomastoid) and not what we've had. Wrong diagnosis.

2 days of bad pain and now a week of left over discomfort now.

chill and be patient, and don't reverse into anyone whilst you're suffering smile
