Slick tyre reviews
Discussion
Hi,
I'm returning to racing after a bit of a lay off and no longer have just Dunlop or Avon slicks to choose from! Can anyone give me their opinion on the Silverstone FTZ or Kumho Ecsta slicks please? I'm racing a FWD saloon (upto 30 min races) so any comments relevant to this would be appreciated, failing that, any comments are also welcome - whatever the vehicle!
Anyone using Hoosier?
Thanks!

hello
ive used avon for the last few years very good tyres, used on a fwd saloon car for 20 min races, ive found they dont like a lot of camber on the front.
and there not cheap.
also avons do great ranges in sizes and bmtr have a great service and are more than willing to help..
also used hoosiers they as good as avons.
this year im gonna be on acb10 from the 1b list i hope i like them.

Avons are a good bet if you're on a budget and want a tyre that will last you for quite a few races before they become past it. I've run them down to the cords before they go off!!! (there's not much change in grip!)
Dunlops are great if (a) you can keep them in their temperature window, and (b) use them for no more than three heat cycles - after that, chuck 'em in the skip - you'll get more grip from a set of nylon casters off a supermarket trolley!
Hoosiers are really good in hot conditions where other tyres go off. BUT they are soft, grip like hell when you get them right, but can be squirmy if you abuse them. You won't get many races out of a a set of these.
Michelins are just brilliant. They have a good wide temperature window - much much better than Dunlop. The also last really well. You get what you pay for!
Can't comment on Kumhos or others as I've not used them.

I would have thought that's more of an indication of how much grip they started off with
