Recent MOT had advisory for bush wear on front lower wishbone (both sides). Car is 5 year old XJ Diesel, 60k miles. What should I look out for as this deteriorates? I keep an eye on how the car performs; the steering is good - no vibrations, or play in the steering wheel; ride is good - doesn't pull and handles rough roads and bumps well; braking is fine - no vibrations in brake pedal. Anything else to look out for? Is there a significant risk of a catastrophic failure?

Thanks.

I doubt you will have a sudden failure.

In addition to the things you mention, I would listen for noise. If you get a knocking sound when you go over a pot hole, or possibly when you corner hard, that is time to change it.

Also keep an eye on your tyres, check for an iregular wear pattern, ie. One side wearing quicker than the other.
Even at that, replacing a bushing isn't a costly job so why wait till its broke to fix it?

Is it not worth changing them now rather than risk wear to the tyre as replacing them would cost a whole lot more than buying a bush set. I know big difference if you can do yourself but surely if you could do it would work out cheaper in the long run.
