OK so, I love them... however I can no longer find them in Tesco or anywhere online! I understand that the season is our Summer, but how come you can get other types of fresh chillies all year round?

No idea, but if it helps, Waitrose sell a 'speciality mixed chilli pack' which has one Scotch Bonnet in it.

yeah freeze them, I have about 300 in my freezer and still have 5 plants from last year that have started forming flowers.

If you plant some now you'll have loads by mid summer. biggrin

My local ethnic supermarket sells them all year round, and you get a lot more for your money in there

This is what I'm doing with this years Bhut Jolokia crop. They lose a bit of texture but if you are blending them there is no loss.

Here in NSW there are only about 3 months when you are without chillies from the garden so not so much of an issue. Always shop bought ones from NT or QLD if you need a fresh one.

OK thanks for the input, I got some from Sainso's in the end. Most online places sell their own chillies so they are not in season yet. Not sure what is going on with Tesco, they seem to be aiming lower and lower in the market they are pursuing.

Incidentally, I know about ghost chillies already. I'm not all about the heat, and the reason I love SBs is because of the smokey taste. They are quite hot, but not very. Ghost just seen to be some kind of joke chilli that people want to show off by eating! A bit like all the silly hot sauces you can buy. Not so much about the quality of the dish they might produce, but just about who's got the biggest dong.

Another vote for your local Indian or Afro-Caribean store.

No worries. I had a look at your profile. I'll be honest I've never been to Cheshire. I only really added it as I've just moved to Basingstoke from Reading (not a particuarly ethnic area IMO) and a few places do scotch bonnet's, plantain, salt fish etc which surprised me.

no probs. I wish there were places like that near me!

that's a point actually I spend a lot of time in basingstoke (our head office at work is there) so would be interested to hear if you find somewhere. There is a great italian deli called delissimo btw.

There is an African "owned" shop I think on New Street. Basically come out of McDonalds on the hight street and turn left. You'll go past a bike shop on your right and then reach a set of traffic lights by a main road (which I think is New Street). Cross over turn right and about 30 seconds walk there is an Afro/Caribean shop on the left hand side of the road. Its bright yellow from memory.

Although I've moved here I've not been in the town centre much and only popped in the once. Prices seemed ok. I tend to buy a lot of my stuff in Reading still as work takes me back there plus I can get Mauby bark and other stuff which I rarely see outside of Reading.

For ease try Grace's sauce if you see it. The yellow one is nicest IMO if you want the SB flavour quickly. I'm practically immune to the stuff and throw it on/in everything from chips to cheese sandwiches. biggrin

I didn't know that they froze well. Nice to know, as I've just planted 10 varieties from an Ebay purchase. thumbup
