Track day car for novice

Whatever takes your fancy, recommend youtube/google etc.

If I put my helpful hat on, then these are popular choices.
Clio (the best IMHO but I own one pmsl)
MX5, MR2, BMW 3 series, Golf, Pug, literally could go on and on. As I said above it's your choice but if you go for something reasonably sporty in the first place then it's a good starting point. Try the classifieds on here for further ideas in the motorsport section etc.

Fair enough,just wanted a couple of options bar the default MX 5 to be honest, as I've been to a couple of track days and a drift day with friends who were in an MX 5 and an E30 BMW.
Was really thinking about ease of control and different abilities (limits of cars) from people with experience of track days, as I currently have a 911 and can't imagine having the talent to take that to the limit on a track!

I started off doing trackdays and sprints in a clio 172, great fun for the occasional event but in standard form could quite quickly become a little boring,
IMHO rear wheel drive whilst not necessarily as fast as or faster than FWD for the same money is more of a challenge to master.
So for £2K ish I'd got for an E36 BMW, probably better value than the E30's now or maybe something like an MR2 or MX5

No prizes for guessing that I would suggest a BMW. £2k can get you an e36 328 or an e30, like mine. In fact, my 325 came with cage, seat, harness, coilovers and r888's and cost bang on 2k. I've spent another grand on it, by fitting fiberglass panels, poly windows & M3 spoler/splitter but that's because I'm shallow not because you need them to have fun.
RWD and more grunt than grip make for a lot of fun and it's all pretty addictive.

Somewhat naive point of view. I know a guy who owns a 7ltr 550bhp TVR as well as an 1.8 135bhp MX5. He's a good driver with plenty of track day experience. In the MX5 he's been quicker than another track day experienced guy driving a 550bhp Audi RS6 and a 450bhp TVR Sagaris! A good driver can be quicker in an MX5 around most UK tracks than an average driver with 4 times the bhp.Gassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
