Took the TVR out of the garage tonight to park my daily drive in the garage and went to turn the key and............... the barrel wont budge i turned steering wheel aswell as trying to turn the key and the steering lock went on
i tried the obvious to no avail and then one last resort jack the front wheel up got a mate to rock the front wheels as if you are checking for a worn wheel bearing while i turn the key and fight with the steering wheel grrrr.. after several cardiac arrests exhaustion ive had to leave the TVR on the drive with a friends car blocking the TVR i cant get the daily driver out as the TVR is blocking it wheels are slightly offset when i took key out that was the problen drive is on a steep incline anyway cant push back as there is a damn fir tree in the way? anyone got a rather large saw?evil
i was going to david geralds open day and had a run planned sun frown

anything else i can try?

Bugger. Sounds like a weekend fitting a new steering lock I am afraid. I have heard Vauxhall locks of that age weren't the most reliable.

Could it just need some lube in there?

The ignition barrel on my old Range Rover Classic seized up a few weeks ago and I squirted some dry graphic powder in the barrel and since then all has been fine.

A small bottle cost me a couple of pounds so it might be worth a try before you go stripping it all apart.

Looking at the VX forums it seems it is a common issue. Hitting the steering lock with a hammer may enable you to turn the key which makes removing the barrel a lot easier, otherwise it is a drill it out kind of job. Lube may help but once it starts it needs changing ASAP.

Stripping it down could be a barrel of laughs, although the key to it will be patience, so have a good lok around it first getmecoat

Had this on mums astra, bump the underside of the lock area with your palm while putting a tiny bit of rotating pressure on the key, took me 30 mins but saved the drilling to replace! Don't back the key out once you win!
