You need to enter Scruffts! www.zyra.me.uk/scrufts.htm
Problem is that as said on one TV program " IF he could talk , he'd ignore us all". I can't get his pedigree , but it's possibly as long as your arm . He's a rescue dog ,but from my association with the breed, he's got a long one. HE ,from my opinion comes from a long line of pedigree dogs . my last one had a pedigree going back several generations, and this one has got the same looks, and shape. OP, your dog is a lovely looking dog and you obviously love him a lot but you often refer to things in a way that suggests the behaviours are just specific to his breed
. I think most male dogs with no training would do the same
Would be amusing for the crowd, you should put him in.
I remember a few yrs ago a great little Cairn who was in the obedience classes, he did them all really well but at an exceptionally slow speed. The biggest laugh was he was called Speedy!

He's not had any training that I can see.I was being sarcastic, and possibly facetious, about the breeds desire to look at any pole etc as something to mark. He's a male, that's been done, so marking is not something that is not in his line of thinking. He's not my first Cairn , so I think I've got a lot more experience of the breed than most vet staff. This breed is something that takes a lot of understanding. They're a tough little (this one is almost 12kg) ,dog but they love the owner and will die to protect him/her . Toby met a she ,a lot smaller than him , who was prepared to fight him for rights. Fortunately ,they got over their problems, and made up . Nothing is specific to his breed. They're totally loyal to the owner, and will go to any lengths to protect the owner.

I'm sure you are, only to be expected. We learn about the breeds we have. I've known a Cairn breeder yrs and my colleague owns a one, your description of them is spot on. I was just saying it's not just Cairns that will cock a leg at every pole (though yours won't because he's been done, I wish my neutered male wouldn't!)
I think it's nice when other breeds take part in these events.
Just watched the agility section and pondered. If I put my pooch (Tobias von rotten bum) into one, he'd look at the agility poles and see just how many P's he could do on each one .
Poles ,to a Cairn mean something to P up.
In theory you won't actually make it to crufts then!? (Unless agility is different to "showing" as your dog must win or be reserve in a championship show to qualify for Crufts)

In theory ,he'd qualify for Crufts if he won a show or two , as he's of championship stock . I would know having owned a few Cairns, one with lines back for several generations. But in practice, as a rescue dog , although I recognise his line ( and he's been got at) , he's got no papers, or tackle( something that doesn't bother me ,as he's a pet ,solely and singly). The question was put up out of humour, as someone did comment on ,as per the dog crapping on the agility course ,and Cairns are well known ( whether or not they've been done ) for marking any post that any other dog has been near . For the agility it makes no difference if your dogs won breed shows it has to win agility comps, regardless of if it's pedigree or not the quickest dogs win.
The way it works is the dogs are graded 1 starter dogs -7 top winning dogs.
Every year there are 11 crufts qualifers only the grade 6/7 dogs are allowed to enter, but they can do asmany or few as they want.
The top 10 dogs per qualifer score points, 1st place =10, 10th place=1 point.
At the end of the season they add up the points and the top 16 dogs in each of the 3 height groups (small/medium/large) are invited to compete at crufts.
So you see everyone you see has put in a lot of work to even get there.

Hi egor, do you know of any good sites for more info on agility? we would love to take Ozzy when he is old enough, but not sure if there is anywhere near us. Ozzy loves jumping over/under/on things, also do some weaving on the beach throgh some old fence posts LOLThe way it works is the dogs are graded 1 starter dogs -7 top winning dogs.

Morning. Todays agility is on at 11, 1.40 and 5pm live on the crufts youtube site, it's the champ class so these are the absolute top dogs.
Have a look at agilitynet.com they have a list of all clubs, don't just look at the kc approved clubs, there are lots of good non kc ones who just don't want to have to go thru a comitee if they decide to change the brand of coffee they drink.
Whereabouts in the country are you?
If the dogs under 12 months i'd avoid weaving and too much jumping as the dogs bones are still growing and it can cause damage further down the line.
I'd advice having a really good wait and recall and having the jump wings but no jump pole and teaching the dog going thru the middle of the jump gets them rewards running around it gets nothing.
The only weaves a young dog wants to be doing is channel weaves, there like 2 sets of poles offset so theres a big gap for the dog to go thru but it doesn't actually weave. Teach a young dog to find the entrance to the gap then as it gets older close the poles up so it's now gradually weaving but has already learnt how to find the entrance and what side to go in, the dog always goes in with the poles on it's left.
If somebody came to me with even a few of thise things i'd be over the moon!

But ,again , some folks like to get too serious.
Having won a fair few shows, you are absolutely right. It is life and death for some people.. And it's funny when some won't speak to you because your dog came first and theirs didn't!But ,again , some folks like to get too serious.
