Why was my thread deleted?

I have organised a Euro driving trip in June and I posted the details on the events section. It got deleted as it was 'advertising'.

Why is it that somone can organise a hoon in the UK and it's not advertising?

Why is it markmullen (for example) can post his big breakfast meet (which he will get sales off the back of) and it not be advertising?

As stated in my post, I'm not asking for a single penny off anyone. They need to book their own ferries and hotels. All i'm doing is providing a route (for free) to likeminded people who would like to be part of a group driving through the Alps?

How it that different to any other meet/hoon organised through PH other than the fact you need to buy hotels and a ferry?

Hi

It was deleted because it was almost a full-on advert for a tour and while some events are permitted (with pre-approval) those that advertise an event in such detail are not. It's always been that way, and your posting is not the sort of thing we let pass by.

I genuinely apologise for the crap message you got, I was mailing from the roadside awaiting recovery to come and fix my car, seems my mind wasn't fully on the job.

If you want to promote try using the free calendar, but we can't allow it to appear on the forums I'm afraid. Sorry

Ok thanks for getting back to me about it.

I just don't see where the line is drawn. There are events such as the Dirty Dicks nights out, Thompsons Fish and Chip run(Yorkshire) which get allowed despite the fact they are giving business to one particular establishment which is surely far worse?

There are countless meet/hoons which take place across the regional sections without issue. The fact that my hoon was both: a) to mainland Europe and b) included lots of details make no difference to weather it is or isn't advertising.

Once again neither me, fellow organisers or any other 3rd party are taking a penny off anyone else, let alone profiting. I'm simply posting a list of dates and a list of locations and people can decided if they want to come along or not.

I must have been on over 100 events which I've read about on PH but have nothing to do with PH. Most of them drives out but also nights out, camping trips, barn weekends, several times to the Malton meet, TVRCC events and a trip to Lemans organised by Pistonheaders. These are all fine..

I assure you I'm not arguing the toss here. I just can't see where the line is, where one is ok but the other not?

ETA: Possibly the fact I (tongue-in-cheek) claimed it is better than the official PH megahoon might have ruffled a few feathers?

I'm sure the cost of the advert would probably be next to nothing if you asked everyone invited to split the cost. Good hoons need proper organising and what better way than to have the approval of the website that displays it?

Well if I were charging people for the trip or it was a 'package' of some sort then I'd definitely pay for a PH advert. But as it happens we're just a bunch of guys driving our cars to through the Alps to Italy and thought we would see if anyone else fancied coming. The level of detail in my thread was simply to answer most questions up front.
