Helmet Holder

Hi All,
In the past someone has gone to great lengths to do away with the helmet holder.
Using copious amounts of plywood, foam, glue, fibreglass, vinyl and staples the holder was upholstered out of sight.
Decided I wanted to revert to the original setup.
Firstly someone tell me the car didn`t come like this and I`ve ripped out a perfectly good original part.
I dont think I have as the vinyl that was used is different to the rest of the interior material when viewed up close.
No matter, the whole idea was to have the holder.

The more I look at it, and how its been done, its looking more and more like its been a factory option.
Im assuming that was available back then.
Anyway, how many different colours of blueish carpets were there.
If I want to source a replacement what colour carpet do I look for.
The owners manual says grey, but Im not that colour blind.
Maybe someone can advise from the photo.
The car is Viper Blue with Portland half hide, if that helps.

No way was that done at the factory.

I would put money on it someone made some sort of bass bin at some point in the past.

Agree mine looks nothing like that when i removed my Sub and fitted the Holder back in. Looks very badly done DIY your doing the right thing

Never really thought of that.
Had considered that someone may have specified it and TVR just took any old holder and upholstered it that way.
Seemingly not.
It has certainly been put together in a way that was never meant to be reverted back to "normal".
So Im now on the look-out for a replacement.
Any pointers ?

When it was all in, and in one piece it looked ok and fitted pretty well.
I just wanted to revert back to the holder and started taking it apart to see what was underneath.
You`re right though scotty, once you see what is underneath it appears a bit of a mess, solid as it was.
Just going to try and find a replacement now.

I would try the breakers like Douglas valley or even look out on e-bay.

Will give Douglas Valley etc a call asap.
I tend to check ebay daily just to keep an eye on cerb bits and pieces that may come up, but dont remember seeing a holder recently, although breakers do just advertise "all parts available" when breaking cars.

Appreciate the offer.
When I got home today I got my son to take the holder out of his 4.5 to see exactly what it should look like and compare it to what has been done to mine.
I then knew what could be removed and what was original although there`s fibreglass resin all over the carpet etc as you can see from the pic so thats not re-usable.
The bare holder unfortunately suffered a wee bit when removing all the plywood/carpet etc hence the plans just to get another one.

Many thanks indeed for the offer - I`ll bear it in mind if things don`t work out with my own.
The holder is now in the hands of Barry, at TVR Ecosse, and appears saveable.
Hopefully manage to get whole thing re-upholstered.
