Any thoughts/advice on this car....

Hi everyone,

Very keen to get myself into a Cerbera and totally jealous of Tang Soo Tim! Looked at Tuscan's, Tamora's and some Chim's but these cars are just astonishing. Spoke to James A and will head up early next week to see the new speed 6 he has in.

My initial feelings were that I should really be looking at a V8 but without wishing to start a 6 vs 8 debate, I do feel I should get the best car I can afford and 15k or so is really my max.

What are your thoughts on the above car - good value? Does anyone know it and are there any others you think I should be looking at. Is anyone tempted to sell?? I am in the London area so if anyone has some time to just show me round their car or offer some pointers it would be much appreciated - beer tokens aplenty!

Was floating in the classifieds on here for a while and on eBay. The owner was a PHer so you should be able to track down history about the car, I know there was a lot of info about the rebuild

It looks great, And it has had a rebuild and it looks like a proper one ie top and bottom engine rebuild. I would find out who did it, If it was TVR Power then it will have a 3 yr warranty and would have cost around £7,000 and will be very well put together.
Ask about suspension to see if it has been upgraded, and when the clutch was last replaced as I doubt it will be on the same one at 46k miles. Try to get underneath and have a peek at the chassis to see if it is solid.
But it is well worth looking at and the price is about right.

It looks a clean example on top, if the rebuild was done by a reputable company and chassis is in good condition then it seems a fair price.
After you buy it youl wish you bought a v8 tho lol

Have you had a look around any others already ? In my experience the more you see and drive the better ! It's amazing how these cars can vary in condition and feel.

Saw this car there while I went to look at mine and do like the colour, speed 6 or V8 though is something only you can decide on, you have to buy these cars with your hart so your wallet follows suit ......

I remember when this car was sold the last time at 44k miles - the car was spotless and was pampered by its owner who unfortunately passed away - his son sold it on behalf of the estate.

Coetzeeh, I did see that car at Brittania and will probably head up next week to have a look. Great colour too. I guess James Agger's reputation leant me towards one of his cars but its definitely worth a closer look. Has anyone had dealings with Britannia? - PM me if you prefer.

Both the Brittania cars were advertised by a local indie IIRC very recently (Selby TVR?) - anyhow, it was a well regarded indie so no worries there. With a TVR Power rebuild you will have no engine worries.

Buy a V8 then as it sounds like you're already compromising before you've bought the car. They are around for that money, particuarly if you go private. I wanted a 4.5 and got one. If I hadn't, every time I saw one I'd have hankered for it.

If you can't find what you're after, hang fire for a month or two until you've got a bit more cash. If nothing else you'll save a few quid on petrol while you're waiting ;-)

What part of London are you in ? I have just got my speed 6 Cerb last week and am very pleased. When the sun was shining yesterday I had the Tvr grin all over my face. That car looks nice and the mods have been done. Happy to chat to you as a newbie , I am sure we can share some stories. From my point of view I tried the V8 and although the soundtrack was there, I have found the S6 an easier drive. Cheers and happy hunto

Bobbins, I get what you mean re the V8. Let's see - I genuinely feel at the moment it's better to go with a more sorted car in my price bracket ahead of engine choice but it may change as the search progresses!

Yes... Buy on condition. However, I'd urge caution if stretching yourself... Make sure you have some funds left over for the running costs! If your budget is £15k, I'd suggest looking at a £12k car and keep the rest aside for those 'little' bills!!! :/

Mind you, for £15k, you could probably buy a 'shed' of a car, at the cheaper end of the market and get it sorted exactly how you want.

FWIW - I've not driven a Speed 6 but they are supposed to be easier cars to live with. Although I own a 4.2, if I was looking again, I wouldn't discount a re-built Speed6.

Thanks Landy. Good to hear you'd also consider a S6 having had the V8. With regards budget, its more of a mental barrier I've set myself, rather than a financial stretch if you know what I mean.
