Hello everyone, I currently have a RR classic but I want to trade into a Land Rover with more seats. What I would really like is a three door Landy with three seats across the front. Which model is this and when were they made. This would I presume make it a seven seated which would be ideal. It is only an occasional car so should I go for a petrol or a diesel?

Any of the series motors or defender range can have 3 across in the front. A Defender 110 will be 5 door, but with rear seat and lengthways seats in the back will seat ten or more (uncomfortably). A swb car will seat seven with lengthways rear seats, but I wouldn't want to travel very far on them.

And if you do have someone in the front centre seat, they will need one leg either side of the tunnel, so be careful with the gearchangesmile

I've just dicovered that the only realistic model woth a V8 is the 50th anniversary. Now I like the look of that, do you happen to know if you can fit a third seat on that one?

I might have to do without a third seat as the 50th looks epic! Anything I should watch out for?

Corrosion (chassis/windscreen surround/paint work issues, usual Land Rover build issues, but most 50th have been coveted by their owners).

Good site for info/help:

Chassis and bulkhead corrosion are your main worries, price is the other these hold their value extremely well, i would not worry too much about the centre seat as its not much cop anyway, i have a V8 90 and have had it for 8 years its not a 50th but love it all the same.

Edited for accuracy - mine is 22 years old and not a 50th Anniversary V8.

A bit confused. Are you buying a 50th or a normal 90 V8?. I had a 50th for three years. And the only motor i regret selling. I will probably be back in the fold again some time soon.

I'm a bit confused, you start by saying you want more seats than an RR, which seats 5.

Is a 50th going to be of use, it will have 4 seats in the back and 2 in the front, so 6 in total. But the rear seats are inward facing, so not to everyone's liking.

How many seats do you need and for what purpose?

Rear seat conversion a possibility (change the inward rears to front facing) this will, of course only give 4 seats?

Transmission tunnel on the 50th prevents 3 front seats:

I was also confused. Although the D90 can seat 6, its not that comfortable in the back for those four people.

I would have thought a nice lae D2 Disco V8 would be worth a look. 7 seats and the desired V8 smile

Don't think the OP has done much research.

Hope you don't mind me copying it BLUETHUNDER? beer

I am a 'lurker' on the www.defender50th.co.uk site and Sue (can't remember her user name) called at my home a few years ago (She very kindly took time out of her journey to see if her Defender 50th would fit in may garage - which it did).

My money is tied up with other stuff at the moment frownotherwise I would have a 50th (hence tomorrow smile I am picking up a 22 year old Defender 90 with a 3.5 V8 for less ££££s than a 50th).

Great vehicles and my 90 will be replaced by a 50th in a few years.

You will be made up with your 90 V8,mine is a 1986 factory V8 most of the time has a rag top on which you can't beat in the summer, over here once the vehicle is 25 years old you get road tax for £10 a year. The year before it was £323 it goes on engine cc and being 3528cc it took it in to the next band by 28cc,but happy days now unless they change it.

Picked my Landie up this morning at 1100hrs and drove the 30 (very noisy, but fun) miles home.

What a truly great vehicle - I love it!

Sounds fan-bl**dytastic:

That looks awesome, the three seat thing is going to be a sticking point so I might just get a really nice series 3! Anyone got one they don't want any more? If I do this is there much difference between a safari and a conversion? I really would love a 50th but I may have to put that one on hold for a little while..... well until she figures out how slow a series 3 is and .....you know how it works!
