Got stuck for about half an hour in very slow traffic in Edinburgh yesterday. First time I have been in a traffic jam since I got the car 3 months ago.
Normally it runs at just below the first "indication".
When pushed, it goes to just above the first one.
Yesterday, it gradually climbed to between 2nd and 3rd- still nowhere near the Red (which is from the 4th line).
Just want to check this is normal!!

Dave I've never had my gauge go up that far even in trafic. The fartherst up I've seen it go is above half way....

Likewise - halfway is the highest mine's ever got - even stuck in traffic in France and Spain with outside temps of over 35C - are your fans working OK?

I think it is normal.........as long as when u get moving it goes down again ,on long runs you ll notice the thermostatic valve on the oil cooler[s] cut in and out and the gauge drop ; when stationary or in slow moving traffic i regularly see over half way on 993 GT2 and 993 rs .................if when u move off the presure has gone, should always be almost up at the top [it will be next to nothing at a standstill] PANIC .........otherwise no prob IMO

Mine never moves past half way up the scale.

The only time it has was at Bruntingthorpe for the V-max day. I did 8 continuous hard laps and the gauge just creeped over half way and stayed there.

Dave, what you describe sounds like failure of the slow speed operation of the oil cooler fan. The temp will climb until high speed kicks in (assuming that's working) at about half past nine o'clock on the gauge.

I've written an easy check routine to appear in the next PP 993 Register column - if you want it before then drop me a mail. Also look at the writeup on p-car.com diy section.

HTH, cheers, Maurice

Gents, thank you all for your responses.
MauriceC2S, I think you are probably right.
Today I left the car (following a run) at tickover for 25 minutes to see the result. I treached EXACTLY wher you say (the hour hand as it would be at half past nine) and went no higher. I could hear the fan operating around this point.
I will write you offline for a copy of your check procedure.
