Well my quest for a new car is proving to be a bit more difficult than first imagined.

I am looking for a 996 4S probably on a 02/03 plate about 60k on the clock etc etc.

Seen plenty out the however the garages selling them must be rushed off their feet as none of the 6 garages I have contacted have bothered their shirt to call or email me back.

It must be a great business to be in just now not having to follow up genuine sales leads, people must be falling into their showrooms from the sky or something!!

Just seeing if anyone else has encountered similar problems.

I am based in Scotland and the cars I am looking at are down south so trying to get as much info as possible before taking a journey down.

Par for the course is right - Cridfords, years ago, never replied to an enquiry I made about a Boxster which was very genuine. I bought one from an OPC the following weekend.

When having my Cayman serviced one of the three OPCs I contacted (Cambridge) never responded to my enquiry either. Great way to lose business, but if you're serious you may want to call one or two - my impression is that they view email enquiries as being less serious than telephone calls.

If your mailing them forget it. Pick up the phone and talk to them. Once they know your serious and your comming to buy/not look as your miles way they'll do the leg work.

I've bought cars like this before. Trade values agreed via photos, whole deal setup ready to go once I arrive and confirm there car is exactly as described.

Yeh i recently contacted a dealer down South with a view to a possible Purchase. Still waiting on their response!!
Obviously a phone call works better, however, even with phone calls they can fail to get back in Contact. Then the flipside, the other dealers that will not leave you in peace!! So i'd say its dealer dependant, Indies seem more chilled, don't give a fk attitude.
But i suppose the amount of timewasters they get, could set you into this mind frame!!

I emailed RSJ about looking for a Porsche this Oct and they replied within hours. So i reckon its down to individual dealers. I think RSJ and the like who are well known for customer care will take the time. I would expect an email nowadays to be replied within 24 hours no matter how busy you are.

Over the years I've had a bit of both. Autobahn in coventry couldnt have been on the phone quicker! I contacted them via email and they rang as soon as they opened the following day.
OPCs - Ive even been face to face with them and was deadly serious with parting with a whole load of cash, never heard back.
It all depends on the seller I suppose, those who are on the ball and keen to sell/help win out right, those that cant be bothered I wonder how they survive?

Best of luck in your search.

Just heard back from Porsche Centre Bolton, left a message as I was on the office phone. Car I was looking at now sold but would keep my details on file etc.

OPC in Edinburgh 2 weekends ago had only one salesperson another chap showed me the car I was interested in, waited about for the salesperson to finish for 30 mins then left. Other chap promised he would get the salesperson to call me, full week later no contact and they still have the car.

I know what your saying about phoning however I need to answer my own phone for my company so email is easier.

Maybe its time to start naming and shaming, not sure how the mods would feel about this though!!

conversely . . . any idiot can "sell" you a car!

Do your homework - stick with a reputable seller/dealer - invest-in/build a relationship - check-out their service facility/reputation (cause thats the key) they will find you the car you want - there are 1000's of them and its a buyers market!

Indeed.

Although it does seem very "hit and miss" - I've had a poor response from two of the outfits named here where others have had a good result. It's just the way it is.

Malton have been very helpful to me in the past although I have not bought from them yet. But I do mean "yet"; I too am in Scotland and would be keen to use them in the future - based on my (admittedly limited) experince with them so far I'd be very confident of getting an immaculate car with good service (and I've never heard of anyone experiencing anything less).

Good luck with the search and keep us updated.

A long way South but RSJ were excellent over email to me - I didn't buy there in the end, but in a way now wish I had (better finance deal and slightly cheaper car, but I was scared off as it didn't have an OPC warranty and it was my first Porker). 911V also receive almost nothing but praise too.

Heard back for Corkhills Alfa saying they are dealing with my request and will send me more info and some pics tomorrow.

Will see how I get on with that.

Emailed 911V, they got back promptly, unfortunatly they do not have anything that suits at the moment. As with a lot of the recommendations they said try and get the best car you can and if it happens to be colour specific etc then all the better. Their advice is as always welcome and as one of 2 dealers to have bothered to get back to me then it bodes well should they get anything in that suits. Tom also kindly offered to assist if I wanted to talk to him about any other cars I have seen. Cant really ask for much more than that, well a free car would be good..... wink

(Edited due to me being a bit hasty with my typing.)

And so the saga continues....

I disagree. If that's what you've set your heart on, don't settle for anything less or you'll only end up regretting it.

No half as much as you will by purchasing a less than average car.

When you are buying towards the lower end of a model's price range and the car is going to be circa 10 years old there are far more bad cars out there than there are good ones. I think it's important to bring as many cars into scope as possible in order to buy the very best car you can.

I note a number of comments regarding calling rather than email.

It's nothing to do with being serious - it's just habit and being lazy.

Even after placing a £10k deposit on car (how serious can you get) I still could not get my OPC to email me. I spend 30-50% of my time in a different timezone and the timing and expense of long phone calls is just not acceptable.

BTW I live a few miles from Specialist of Malton if you want any tips wink

I try to respond to all email enquiries promptly, but it is frustrating if the enquirer doesn't provide any other contact details. I can then find that I've spent time writing numerous emails only for them to seemingly fall off the surface of the earth. I realise they may have bought elsewhere but likewise they may have read (or mis-read) something I've written and I've no way of finding out or getting any feedback. Consequently you'll get more out of an email dialogue if you give me more than just an email address. The worst are the "what's your best price mate?" type ones. mad

Sadly its not only the car industry, I am on the hunt for a decent house - cash buyer and the shocking service from estate agents just astounds me.

Saw a property this weekend, really liked it. No follow up call today, I rang them at 4pm to make a second viewing, get told I will be phoned back in 10 mins, nope nothing!

I don't get it!

I agree with all of that, but these cars (for most people, myself included) is the realisation of a dream, and there's no point in 'settling' for a spec you don't want. I suggest the OP holds out for a decent car in the spec he wants.

It's true that the more fussy you become on spec, the longer you'll probably have to wait for it to come up, but exterior/interior colour isn't being too picky in my opinion.
