Has anyone ever bought a car bearing a private plate from a dealer who were giving the plate back to the previous owner ? Up to now i,ve been waiting for 4 weeks for either the dvla or the dealer to sort the transfer out so i can get a reg. no and a new log book and tax disc and am now getting a bit hacked off with the wait .

Yes and no - I "bought" a (New shape) Honda Civic a few years back - it was mine, I had the deposit down for it, but the plate transfer was taking ages. I waited 4 weeks while using their demo car - Eventually I got frustrated as I wanted the car I paid for and bought a Seat Leon instead.

(Biggest mistake ever in not waiting as the Leon was a dog).

If you want the other car, hang on unless it's inconveniencing you.

Its usualy the DVLA that cause the delays, should take 2-4 weeks but can take longer, sometimes as much as 6 weeks. Thats not to say that the dealer is with out fault though.

well put it this way, i,m trading a petrol cherokee with 93k for a merc diesel - engined cherokee with 37k on a 55 plate and its not a mental price to change. As much as i love that v6 , its straining the wallet to keep it in petrol!
