So I'v decided to become a rock star!!

As part of my mid life crises (I was 51 a couple of weeks ago)I have decided to take up the guitar, this was spurred on by the other half who bought me lessions as part of my birthday present.

So a quick call to my older but highly talented brother has netted me this from his collection of over 20 axes. He thinks it would be a good starter guitar as it an electric acoustic that has a very thin body and neck which he reckons will make it easier for me to learn





I did ask if I could borrow his 1958 Vintage Les Paul but apparently this was not an option, not sure why.

Anyway, I am a classically trained (grade 8) on the accordion would you believe, but have not played in years due to life getting in the way.

So how hard is this going to be for me at my age???

You'll have dexterity from the accordion, which is good. IMO I think your biggest issue is going to be getting frustrated because you can't play the things you can play on the accordion.

If you have a musical background, you'll pick up the guitar pretty easily. Sure, left hand fingers will hurt to begin with but I'm sure you'll relish the experience. Looks a nice guitar too.

The great thing about guitar is that to go from F to F# to G to G# etc... you just lean a bit to the left (or slide a bit to the right). Try that on a keyboard!

Learn G maj with an index finger bar and in 10 minutes (taking off a finger or two) you'll have 48 chords.

You have music in your veins, so one you learn the basics of guitar you will be fine

Is there a model number on that guitar or does anyone know anything about it? It's the twin of the electric I have from when I was at school and first started playing, I'd love to get hold of one to keep it company.

Work out the style of guitar playing you want to do, concentrate on that style, study the techniques of the leading players in that genre - and steel every lick you can.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, my older brother is a great inspiration as he has be playing for nearly 40 years and is truly great not just on the guitar but a verity of instruments. He has also played as a session muscian for acts as diverse as the Spice girls and Lionel Ritchie so hope to pick up a few pointers
