Hello,

Just received a letter stating that at 1.45am in the morning last month whilst driving home from work, I was caught via average speed camera driving through roadworks on the M62 at 57 mph in a 50 mph.

Is there anyway to wriggle out of this ball ache? I did the speed awareness course 2 years, 9 months ago... which rules me out of that escape route. Its all rather frustrating.

Thanks.

Only thing you can do is request evidence I think. Could be wrong but I think you need to take it on the chin.

i fking hate the m62 but thats another story.

not sure about your options, but i thought the threshold would have been set a little higher, i usually do about 54/55 as per GPS.

54 is only 8% over. 57 is 14% over, and most likely around an indicated 59/60. Not surprised you would get pulled for that.

They provided photos of me driving... but I guess that doesn't prove my wrong doing. Has anyone else appealed this sort of thing and gotten anywhere or shall I accept the points?

I'd man up and take the points. The M62 is a ballache at the moment but we all know the limit on there.

At the registered address on the V5? Was it more than 14 days later not including date of offence?

Yes to both I believe.

A friend of mine appealed against a speeding camera fine a while back stating he believed the camera to be faulty as he wasn't speeding (ahem) and it turned out, it had some sort of malfunction and he therefore, got off.

I was aways a bit dubious that they actually worked, so that's interesting in itself.

I've lost count of the number of people I see going through at what must be way over 60, or even more stupid are the people that tank through and then slam the brakes on for each camera - don't they understand the concept of "average speed"? rolleyes

Also worrying - I tend to drive through at 55 on the GPS - that must be awfully close to the threshold for a ticket. I'll revise things downwards I think.

You seem to be freely admitting that you broke the limit and have subsequently been caught.

Rather than begging for ways to wriggle out of it because it's an inconvenience, how about you take the points and try harder not to get caught next time.

hardly say he's begging, i really dont think he minds taking it on the chin.

50mph zones at 1.45am when there are no workers about. Ridiculous.

buts thats another topic in itself.

Blimey - first time I've heard of anyone getting done by these - was beginning to wonder if they actually worked?!

That's a bummer - not much over the limit either.

There was an article in the Yorkshire Evening Post (IIRC) quoting X thousands have been done for speeding on the M62.

I heard from someone that they can only get you in the same lane between two cameras. So you can go through a camera in lane 1, through the next camera in lane 2 or 3 and it can't catch you. Don't know if this is myth or what

Anyone shed any light?

We get very few down here - seeing as we have not motorways! But still not heard of many being done.
How about the gantry cameras seen on the M25 and M6? Went a bit quickly past one on the M6, bricked myself for two weeks, no ticket.

I have a friend that knows someone that works for highways (sounds like b0ll0x already) and he pretty much the same as you've said but to explain it sounds like even more nonsense.

A bit of googling found the answer, you used to be able to do it but they now work over all lanes

You may still get the course - the Police don't like fining people as they don't get the money...
