That happened to me whilst testing my car after completing its first restoration. The thing you don't think about is that when it pops open, your first reaction is to break, which makes the bonnet want to spring open even faster.

Following that incident without suffering any damage I made a chain with carabena type clip and heat shrunk it, fitting it to the bulkhead and clipping to the bonnet.
