I am wondering what they are going to blame on the car next.

JFK?

Roswell?

September 11th?

Note the Media Bias for sensationalism.... the article says:

"A child's academic performance, behaviour and attention span could all be affected by the hum of traffic or other sounds.

Being constantly surrounded by everyday noise appears to be the main factor."

So therefore some cretin media type said to a Scientist:

CMT: "So your new research suggests that noise can affect a childs development...

Scientist: "Yes exactly we have proven..."

CMT: (Butt in) " so what kind of noise then..?"

Scientist: "well everyday noises, such as televisions, loud music, roadworks and the like"

CMT: "anything else ?"

Scientist: " well yes, any sort of everyday noise.."

CMT: (Butt in) "..such as Traffic"

Scientist: " erm well yes I suppose in some circumstances "

Conclusion: Traffic noise 'harms' child health.

Christ. They report this s**t like its true (the headline). At least they *do* report that a "respected British scientist" thinks its either bollox or, at least, is totally unproven.

I'm sure living in a noisy environment does distract kids from their homework. Although every teen will tell you otherwise as their stereo blasts out some unlistenable pap.

I wonder if there were any other factors that could explain the results they got. Its not very PC to say "statistically less intelligent people earn less and live in cheaper housing often near highways". Oh no. No. Its much better to blame lead from the petrol in cars. Oh. We took the lead out. Oh. Oh dear. It must be the noise from them then....

Oh for ****s sake!

I totally agree with the article. Its all true.

And as a result I'm going to sue the government for building noisy roads next to my house and all the schools I've attended in the past.

This of course is the reason why I never achieved my true potential and am now sentenced to a life of under-achievement.

I estimate about 10 million squids will cover the loss of potential earnings.

w*nkers - it's like living in America...

If I was aware that noise harmed children - you can bet your balls I'd have a BIG exhaust on my Datsun and a V8 under it's bonnet

The BBC are a disgrace to the nation some days..

S_willy -

Couldn't agree more.. Then Im gonna sue them for the pain and anguish I suffer every day as a result of traffic jams caused by the chaufer driver range rovers / discoverys / shoguns that of all these kid get carted to school in, hence getting no fresh air or exercise (the lack of which is obviously realy good for them)

recon on ~£100,000,000 might cover that and loss of earnings due to this stationary in car - never mind fuel etc. Anyway, at least my insurance cost per minuite in car is currently good value for money.

Pete.

read the first line and got angry.
obviously there is not enough news at the moment!
surely a childs success at school is determined by their productivity rates at school and their parents encouragement.
I think you should all drive round residential areas in the TVR's etc with banners saying "look what you can buy if you work hard and dont sit in class staring at Heather Morgan's legs and flicking elastic bands at Kevin Bradley"*

* hence why i have a Fiesta!

Too right. This is EXACTLY what I was going on about in the "Radio Green" thread. The Great Unwashed now believe it has been proved that the reason their children are ignorant is traffic noise.

I heard this on the radio, and they described it
as being noise from road traffic *or trains*.

The *trains* bit appears to have been deleted from
the online report. Some targeted censorship/
propaganda from the BBC? Spare the thought...

In itself, this article means nothing - no one will remember it this time tomorrow (except us sad muppets).

It's the constant attrition like a dripping tap that's doing the damage.. keep telling people the same thing enough, and unless they know any different they're gonna believe (and repeat) the gist of the message sooner or later.

Cars are bad... mkay?

Did you know that according to a recent study, 67% of BBC employees were still bedwetters when they left home?

Ah, on the positive side - we can all push this one forward. Get the schools moved out of busy roads and populous areas. Nice green field site for them and they can do what they wont - farmers dont need them as they are all going out of business according to the BBC anyway.

Advantage is that we get our roads back and we dont have those god-damn people who insist that little-johnny or silly-sally cant walk the 200 metres to school and have to be dropped off via Land Rover Discovery V8 - parked in the middle of the road.

So there is a bright side to this.

Cheers,

Paul

So now the school mums block all the good roads and hold up traffic (and make more noise) to the green field sites instead?
