We are looking to have a week in Cornwall this summer. We have a 7 & 9 yr old who both enjoy the outdoors.

Would like any suggestions for places to stay, prefer near a beach. Self catering, cottages etc but would also consider nice holiday parks with lodges etc.

I spent many happy family holidays in Falmouth. It had lovely beaches and plenty of hotels as well. It was also pretty well situated in terms of visiting other parts of Cornwall.

How about Seaton near Looe and Whitsand bay.

I can certainly recomend this place, A two bedroom apartment with patio and garden! Its owned by my inlaws. It is about 200m from the beach and on the edge of a country park with ponds and woodland and a small river thats full of trout! The beach is quite big and is very quiet if you walk along away from the middle, aswell as having lots of rockpools. The beach is also in a bay and is very shelterd, not really a surf beach but great for swimming and kayaks/dingies as the tide isnt too strong.

The nearest town is Looe which is great if you have kids and has some nice cafes and restaurants. Also they do boat/fishing trips

Loads more about it here.

We went there last year during the royal wedding, so not really the height of summer! The lodges and park were lovely, but wasn't that keen on the local town; could have been to do with the crap weather though as the beach would no doubt be stunning in the summer.

Also my brother stayed in the Yurts linked above with his little one and they all loved it and I believe are planning a trip back this year.

We rented a flat for a week in a small town called St Mawes last year. Little bit out of the way from the major attractions but easy enough to get to where you wanted with a bit of a drive.

Couldn't pick a place to stay as I like much of the area but would recommend Helpful Holidays if you go self catering. Really good web site and have not been disappointed with any of the properties I've rented through them.

The headland cottages in Newquay would be good for family. They are on site at the headland hotel and you have access to their swimming pools and other entertainment.

It's also right on fistral beach.

Look for accommodation near to Watergate Bay, truly one of the best beaches ever. If you are into things like kites, surfing, body boarding etc its just the best and is massive. The Beach Hut cafe is a great place to eat and if you want to spend more Jamie Oliver's 15 restaurant is above it. Also the place to a short drive to a number of place of interest

Check out www.beachretreats.co.uk for accommodation
