Mk2 Oil

Hey all,

What oil would be best for a 1.8is mk2? Mobil 0-40W or 5-40W?
I had an oil change about 5 months and it seems to have disappeared.. Never seen any visible leaks, so may be burning it

I've seen so many different opinions of oil, would it really make a big difference?

I put a litre of Mobil 0-40W in, just to see if it simply needed a top-up.. But there was still very little on the dipstick! Very worrying that I've been driving around with it, little nervous..

I just use 10W/40 semi synth in my 1.8 MkII - as per the handbook.

Usually get a good deal on Shell Helix from ECP via ebay.

I always used Mobil 0-40W in my Mk2, bought from Costco at £28 for 5 litres. Mk2's do drink oil and it's quite normal, you just need to keep an eye on the level.

5/40 Fully synthetic is what I put into mine on Sat. I had 5/30 in before, and it's far too thin!

Asda (*shudder*) do deals on it often, so it works out cheaper than Halfords own etc
