Is it that easy to get 20% more economy and 40% more power smile

If it was that easy all the OEM's would be doing that as a default setting especially nowadays with a requirement for no emissions and more power.

They must be sacrificing something, engine life perhaps?

40 percent power - possible.

20 percent fuel economy - less likely, but possible, if requiring driver conditioning.

From chatting to someone who does diesel tuning from a manufacturer POV diesels are de-tuned for many reasons, some being noise, warranty (specifically breaking of gearboxes etc), vibration, emissions etc.

If you don't care about any of those you can get significant gains but those claimed numbers are still ridiculous.
