Category D Body Damage

Is category D repair a big problem? I'm aware that damage is categorised but have no knowledge of how the sysyem works. My son's coming back from Afghanistan next month and he's after a Focus ST and as it happens there's one for sale only 2 miles from here. It's a good looking deal but had cat. D damage. Is it worth a look or should I just forget it?

Needs to be cheap, as it won't be as easy to sell on.

You also need to know when it was categorised - it's easier to write off a lower value car.
