Orthopedic advice?

Is there anyone around who specialises in orthopedics and hips who could give me some advice?
My 77 year old Dad had a left stage 2 hip revision in August which appeared to be very good. He has developed pain and difficulty in it over the last four weeks (without admitting to it - don't start me on this) he's been away and I was only aware of this when he came back mid week last week. Over the last few days his mobility has got much worse and he is currently struggling to get around.
I've got him a consultants appointment for Monday but it appears to be deteriorating quite quickly and I'm concerned that what I ought to be doing is getting him to A&E to get it xrayed.
The problem is that he's very very anti going to A&E and is worried about anyone other than "his" consultant dealing with it. I've tried all my usual tactics to get him to do what I want and have failed - the only way I am going to get him to A&E is going to be to force him into the car and drive him 30 miles to the nearest proper A&E. He's determined that he's going to stick it out until Monday.
I know the sensible approach is A&E but I'm reluctant to declare all out war which is what I'm going to have to do to get him to A&E when we have the consultants appointment on Monday.
He swears blind that he hasn't fallen on it and I think I believe him.
Any thoughts from anyone who is experienced in this area about what might be going on?
